Hi Bridget

So glad you are feeling better, migraines are the pits !!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you enjoy the recipe....and congrats you are the first post on page 33 !

Made another new recipe last night
..Sausage meat loaf....its a wartime recipe from Marguretite Patten

12 oz sausage meat in a bowl, crumble up 4 oz corned beet, put in with sausage meat, chop 1 onion finely, add that too, 1 TBsp favourite chutney, grate small apple into mix. Then mix up really well......put into loaf tin (lined) Cook for about 45 mins at 190oC Serve with baked beans or baked potato... it was delicious and we had it cold today for lunch equally as good

There are lots of excellent recipes in the book which was published some years ago by Past Times...will try others out and post them if they are successful

Regards Jan

Helen, When we go to Wetherspoons we always have the veg breakfast which has veg sausages because, even though we are not vegetarian, we prefer it. Also our Third Grandson's girlfriend is vegetarian and at least two of the boys had a spell of being veggies.

Jan, I think that in my "store area" in a box of books I may still have a
Marguretite Patten cook book!

I shall print this and add it to my Recipe book and also I will cook it. OH would enjoy the baked beans and I hate them !!

Bridget hope you are OK and enjoyed the recipe....just a quick one to use a jar of mincemeat
Frances Mincemeat Cake

1 jar of mincemeat, 8oz SRflour, 6 oz margarine, 2 oz caster sugar, 1 tsp almond essence and 3 eggs........mix it all well together. line 2 x 1 lb loaf tins. cook at 150oc for about 40-50 mins..It depends on your cooker, but basically until it is cooked. very delicious.

Given to me by my sister in law from my previous life (thats what I call my late first husbands family ) I also have other recipes using a jar of mincemeat if anyone is interested ?

Regards, have a good weekend everyone

Nudge for Sharron

Strange because this thread is under Bridget's old board name of Bossy Boots.

If you sre getting vege sausages I would recommend Cauldron even if they are soya which I have never liked.

There used to be a vege rasher called Streaky Strips which were excellent and went crispy.Oh those rasher sandwiches! Apparently they no longer make them as they could not guarantee all the ingredients were not GM.

Made some cracking pasties.Pastry half Crisp'n'Dry, half Stork. Filling I bunged two onions, couple of carrots, a spud and a bag of Quorn mince in the food processor.Ground it up a bit. Also, and this is the important it, there was a pickled onion in there

Dead simple but dead yummy too.
PS,Thanks for the nudge.

Yes it is in my previous name, couldn't see any reason to change it! Do you think that I should do so.

OH cooked yesterday and today. We had Gammon yesterday with lots of veg and today we had itailian Carbanara, delicious and cooked by OH. Then a male friend turned up at around 4 pm to ask if we were watching the English Football, so OH suggested he stayed and then learnt that the chap had not eaten all day so OH cooked him a traditional full Breakfast along with toast etc.

I have a confession to make.
A few weeks ago I made Annabel's boiled fruit cake.

Today feeling the need for a treat OH and I decided that since we are the only ones who ate Christmas cake we might as well cut it.

Well what can I say Annabel it is absolutely lovely and in the description used by my grand daughter
YUMMYLICIOUS.
Take care
Von :-) :-) :-)

We ate the first one I made when visitors came, and then I made another because it was different so really pleased to read that Annabel's Cake is delicious...I have not iced it because we do not like icing But I did put Marzipan over the top. not to thick and then on went the old bits and pieces that I have always used, It has sugar sprinkled over the marzipan and and a holly ring around the sides. each time friends visit I can see them looking at it BUT nothing cut off this one until Christmas Day!!!

Ah, Annabel,

With success comes the inevitable, a request for more recipies.

Wishing you and everyone else who has every posted on here a " Very Happy Christmas"

In my house there were always bits of this and that, as far as food is concerned, left over from Christmas, so just wondering if anyone has some good meals / recipies for left overs?

Anyone planning a special New Year Party? If so what is your Menu?

It is sunny but cold here, and very quiet outside. Didn't hear the birds tjis morning because I slept longer than usual.

Be happy, and enjoy your cooking

Good morning everyone.
Greenfingers, thanks for the recipe, I will try this but not today as OH is going to do the cooking, he has some lamb and I am not sure what he is going to cook.
We are having duck for New Years Eve, which we both enjoy, I must admit though that we bought a ready prepared duck with all the instructions, so no worries. We have decided that buying good champagne is, this year, rather expensive, well it is here in Spain, so we are having wine which we already have. Haven't decided on the starter or the desert so maybe a few suggestions would be helpful.

We were at the last of the Quizez, that OH does once a fortnight, last night. There were some very good wines given to the team that one and the team who came second. The third team had a large tin of well known toffees etc which they immediately opened and shared around.
Just as we were leaving OH was presented with two very good French Wines, which was totally unexpected, but very welcome. My team came last but one!!

The weather here is very very windy and the sky is still dark blue with deep pink and Red patches, I think we may be in for a wet and windy day.

So, another year is almost ready to start and I wonder what is in store for us both world wide and locally, wouldn't it be wonderful if the wars decreased, if people suddenly realised that we all need help and kindness, if children did not become parents and if children were children again rather than mini adults.
Is anyone making a New Year Vow? I have to decide what mine will be, it may be as simple as sitting back and watching and caring about all the family and friends ( this includes people on here) or if I should decide to become more active in ??????? Certainly not healthcare as I think I have done my stint.....AH, just as I was writing I realised that what I am going to do is...........................starting my writing again ,

Off to make second mug of coffee, so bye bye for now

Bridget.

Lemon Loaf

1 jar lemon curd good one if poss, I very large tub of Lemon Yoghurt, I used Yeo Organic (it was very nice on its own) 1 lemon, zest taken off and lemon squeezed, 4 meringue nests broken up into small pieces. Line a 1lb loaf tin with a double liner of cling film. Mix curd, and yoghurt together and then fold in juice and zest. Then mix in meringues pour into loaf tin, level off and freeze. Take out of freezer about 15 mins before use......it was absolutely delicious !!

Hi Bridget,

I did say I would put my 13 year old sons school pineapple upside down cake on your thread.

He broke his arm 6 weeks before christmas so the cooking at school came to an end!

Im sure you all know this old favorite but here goes.

7inch dish
2oz soft marge
2oz caster sugar
2oz self raising flower
1 egg.

Mix all above , put pineapple rings on base on dish, add cake mixture and cook on gas mark 5 for about 20-30 minutes.

serve with custard.

Yummy :-D
