Oh Ann, Lemon Meringue does sound good, I must admit that is something which I have never made, not sure why.

My daughter has so many books, some from when she was a child, and she does not like to part with them, like her father when she is reading she is so absorbed in her book that the world can pass her by!! Me on the other hand, must be too quizzy, I don't get lost in my book and alwlays know what is going on around me.

I went to the movies yesterday afternoon, the second time in two months, saw a lovely true story about a race horse called Secretariat.

had a late breakfast today which OH prepared, Boiled egg and toast with a lovely mug of tea..very english but we really did enjoy it.
The grey skies have gone and the sun is shining and i would say it is warm not hot. the sun shining certainly lifts ones mood.
I am still wallowing in the joy of being home, of sitting next to OH watching a film or sports or anythiing which takes our fancie. We are lucky that the house is on two levels and in each we can make coffee and hhave a snake although the main meal is nearly always up stairs.
I am still re arranging the house so it is my home again...I am amazed that some people do not clean quite as i expected afterall they were here for nearly a year, and the couple who looked after the dogs, and did a good job were rather caught out when we arrived at 01.00hrs and not mid morning. the house was a disgrace. food everywhere, dust you could write in, washing everywhere, etc etc, At least jet and joe had been feed but their food holders were ,.......beyond description. Oh well at least we are all together again and hoouse work is supposed to be therapeutic.

I haven't picked the fruit yet it may be delayed until tomorrow

Going to finish one of the bathrooms now and then hang out the washing

I will be back latter

Maybe they were going to blitz the house before you arrived if you arrived early Bridget.

Val, I have never made lemon meringue as my OH doesn't like anything lemony unless it is in his G&T!!! But I always choose it given the opportunity if it is on the menu.

Mary. Did you find any bargains?

Bridget I have just been for a longish walk round the village astates, probably under two miles but more than I have been doing recently because of the weather. It was gloomy when I set out but the sun came out and it is a real spring day, very mild too. OH is playing golf so he will be happy. Now I shall make some cards or do a scrap book page. It is all decisions.

another triumph we have reached page 51 well done everyone.

i am downstairs now which is separate from upstais, hope that makes sense. it has a very large livung room, 1 showere room and a large doble bedroom. I keep saying that I am going to install one of those student kitchens which are sol in some places but I never actually yget around to it and I now have to consider the cost as well. We do have a large fridge-freezer down her as well and there is the kettle etc and I do sometimes bring the microwave down here if we have visitors, just in case thay want anything during the night.
Well my Spring ckcleaningis nearly finished, OH makes sure that I have regualrbreaks and something to eat and drink. I have prepared our meal for tonight I have made a shepherds Pie which we will have in about an hour or so.
Well have to go and checking that the washing is dry enough tobring in, I do not use the drier unless I have to,

Wel Mary, did you find any bargains??

6.30 a.m. here, the sun is shining and already quite warm.
Off to church this morning and then have been invited to tea with friends, otherwise it will be a quiet day with nothing special on the agenda.

Shepherds Pie is what we call Cottage Pie I think, I made one this week for supper. I am not a great meat eater but do like mince and chicken breast which is the only part of the chicken I eat.

Look after yourself Bridget and don't over do things, good job your husband keeps an eye on you.

I was very humbled this morning - a member of our church who is a domestic worker and a single parent who has had a lot of difficult times and was recently retrenched, losing not only her work but also her accommodation, knelt at the front of the church to pray to give thanks for all the kindness shown to her, for all the help she has received and for the friendship from the congregation. With the help of the church she has now found employment which includes accommodation. This made me realise once again just how much we, who are reasonably comfortably off , take for granted.

SpanishEyes Report 13 Feb 2011 15:38

Sue, So two of us awake early this morning, do you live in the UK or elsewhere. Any particular reason you were awake?

Valerie, I have always understood that Shepherds Pie is made from minced lamp, and Cottage Pie is made with Minced Beef. I have taken heed of not overdoing anything, but was very proud of myself yesterday when I drove OH and myself into town for a couple of hours and back again in the early part of the evening, I had not driven in Spain for about 6 years so it really was a milestone for us both and it was my idea. I must admit it is a very short distance but a very steep hill.
the message about the lady in the church this morning was very uplifting and certainly reminds those of us who are comfortably off just how lucky we are to be is in such a position even if we have had to work hard to attain such a position.
We have been out to lunch in the English bar rather like a club really and had an excellent traditional English roast lunch of, roast pork, roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots & swede, roast onions, leeks and home made gravy, followed by home made individual treacle pudding and custard. Also had a glass of red wine. OH has brought me home as I suddenly needed to be back in my home. fortunately OH has already explained to our close friends the difficult time I have been through & still have to some degree to "get my act together" so he has now gone back to watch a football match with two of his friends and has promised he will be back as soon as the game finishes.

well that is all for now so please take care of yourselves

Good morning everyone and have you remembered it is Valentines Day?
There is a delightful story about Valentines day on BBC on line. i would have been delighted to save it but I wasn"t sure how to do so,,,,do read it as i think that it may surprise some people just how long Valentines Day has been a special day.

It is still dark and chilly here this morning so I shall make a cup of tea for us both and toddle back to bed and have a few more hours simply relaxing.

I will be back later, just had a lovely long message from my daughter in law explaining exactly what is happening on their church blessing day, I am really looking forward to it.

MaryinSpain Report 14 Feb 2011 09:43

Good morning all
Well the sky is blue here in Spain but windy. I did all my washing on Saturday as we had been forcasted to have rain most of this week but it does not look like it will start today. Yesterday was another lovely day and we went a ride and ended up in Pego - about 30 minutes or so from Oliva. Had a walk and then sat outside a bar enjoying a glass of vino and people watching - a lovely way to pass an hour or so.
Well my trip to the market did find me a bargain - well perhaps not that much of a bargain but it was what I needed. I am off to UK March 3rd to look after my mom for a couple of weeks - my sister flys to Australia tomorrow for 5 weeks - so the troops have been organised to look after mom - my cousin is in Cornwall now for 10 days then our eldest son and wife take over and then it is my turn - back to that bargain - I am only taking hand luggage and I wanted a small black bag which I could wear across my body and hopefully no one will tell me I have 2 pieces of hand luggage!! All my handbags are large so I found this smallish black leather one for 6 euros which has about 4 zipped parts to it so will be useful to organise my passport etc.
Well hubby and I had breakfast together this morning - most unusual during a week day - I have normally fell fast asleep when I should be up - anyway he woke me this morning so I got up and we breakfasted together.
Tonight we decided we would have various tapas for our evening meal with a bottle of wine.
Well must be off - housework beckons.
Love Mary xx

ps Well done Bridget for driving in Spain and Val that was a really touching story about the lady in church

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 14 Feb 2011 09:52

Mary I have found that, if I put my handbag inside my flight back (carry on bag) at the check in desk and again going through security, then take it out again, nobody queries it.

SpanishEyes

SpanishEyes Report 14 Feb 2011 14:38

AnninGlos, I do exactly the same as you with my handbag, and it has so far not been commented on.

Mary,Enjoy your meal this evening and the wine!

I have done all my washing today and most of it was dried outside and then a quick wizz in the tumbler meant no ironing either so it is all now back in the right places.
OH and i had a small breakfast this morning and exchanged our cards. i have kept them all, goodness knows why but I cannot throw them away.

It sounds as if you had a bargain with your new bag, Mary, just don't forget which of the parts you have put your bits and pieces in.
Early evening we are going to a birthday celebration for one of the chaps who lives here and as we have two Stephen King books which are brand new, and we already have the 1st Editions, so we are giving them both to him as a birthday present, I even found just the right wrapping paper in one of the draws of the book case.

We having been collecting first addition books which must be in very good or excellent condition for years, goodness knows what we shall do with them all if we ever have to down size. however we do make sure that they are all well cared for and we have book shelves and book cases in every room.

I also collect old recipe books but have bought any for a couple of years but i may have a look around when I am back in the UK for the wedding in may and the other wedding in June...

well that is all the news for now,
take good care of yourselves, and have you noted that we are coming to another milestone on this thread??

How is everyone to-day?

Thanks for the explanation about the pies Bridget, I didn't know that, so we learn something new every day.

I sat outside this morning at 5.30 a.m. to have coffee. it was so peaceful before the traffic and other noises started. The sun was just coming up and the clouds were pink, the sky was really pretty, the only things I could hear were the birds and the roar of the sea.

Housework never ends does it Mary? I must admit I would rather go out to work than do housework! However, being retired it's housework for me!

Went up to the supermarket to do some shopping, was back home by 9.30 a.m. thoroughly exhausted from the heat. I had closed all the windows and also closed the curtains and put the air-conditioner on before going out so the house was lovely and cool.

We are coming up to 1000 are we.

Take care.

Val.

SpanishEyes Report 15 Feb 2011 15:20

Valerie you are spot on we are coming up to the 1000th entry, I wonder who will get there. I was thinking of sending messages to the people who used to put entries on here to invite them back, any thoughts about this,
This morning we did not rise until quite late as we had been out the night before and it was grey and wet outside so we had a cup of tea and just relaxed, with us both reading.
We had to go into town to go to the bank and transfer some money to one of my sons, he sold a business a while ago and new that he moight go on a spending spree and then regret it so we have some in a special account and when he needs or wants some we just transfer it for him. It was quite pleasant when we drove into town and we had a delicious coffee but resisted the cakes,

Came home and had our main meal of the day, I find it which was a steak each , with mushrooms, tomato and tortilla which we had not used yesterday. To follow we were very naughty and had pancakes with chocolate sauce.

Tonight for super we will have something somewhat lighter, although haven't quite decided.

Actually I do not mind house work, not the everyday tidying etc but the real pull everything out, clean polish, re arrange furniture etc and when it all look so good and pictures and paintings re arranged, and the house smell so fresh and clean I feel very satisfied.

Whilst doing exactly that when last week I found a table cloth which I had started embroidering a few years ago so have decided to finish it.

have just looked out of the window and it is still raining heavily, the dogs are indoors lying on their special blanket and keep looking out of the patio doors and coming back an laying down again.

Well that is about all for now so will say goodbye and look forward to more entries.

I have just wondered if you have seen my other thread about Poems and sayings, if not please take a look and see if you can add to it. i am delighted with the entries so far.

Bye from Wet & Chilly Peniscola.

Valerie

Valerie Report 15 Feb 2011 15:52

Bridget I think it is a very good idea to invite the people who used to post here to join in again.

I haven't seen the thread about Poems and sayings so will take a peep.

Because of the heat to-day we once again had fruit salad for lunch so will make something a little more substantial this evening.

We are having a problem with mosquitoes at the moment having just got rid of the ants which invaded the kiitchen.

Enjoy your evening.
