Just a quick hello,

I am in a much better mood.
Been to the college in town today for a haircut. As it was done by a second year student it only costs £6, well usually it would cost £6, this week was an exception (I found when I was part way through the cut) ...

it was Half Price!!!!!

Not only that, but I got a voucher for another "treatment" to be used before 15th May. (They do beauty therapy too, whech includes massages).

So I am really pleased.

The (only) downside is that it can take a long time to be "done" as the student has to check each step with a very busy tutor. It took around three hours today.....

So who's got a numb -um then?

Happy but tired. I say good-hight to everyone.

Tess :-)

Hazel - I wouldn't go out in bad weather unless you have to. I am retired and never go out if it's raining. However, this week, I had a doc's appointment, so I went whilst it was nice and dry - but the doc was running behind and I had to wait a long time to see him. By the time I came out, I walked back to the car in 'sprinkles' and when I got into it, the shower became heavier.
Since I had somewhere else to go, I took off and realised that I had not used my windscreen wipers for so long, I didn't even know if they would work! At one stage, during the shower, I couldn't see the markings on the road and had to guess. Thankfully, there was nobody behind me. I didn't like it at all and look forward to not renewing my license later this year, after I sell my car.
I have been driving for over fifty years - time to let someone else do the driving.

Just a quick hello - hope everyone is well - I see the twins are growing big! Weather in London is cold and we have the remnants of the snow in our little cul-de-sac (not enough traffic), but today it is cold fresh and blue sky with a shiny sun (not warm!)

Most of problems solved - and life getting back to normal - still no good news on the work front - but a little more optimistic this week. OH is keeping me sane in that way and not blaming me for having no work - she thinks that people are blinkered when it comes to a 64 year-old, 'they must be past it and useless'

I so dislike the new family tree on Genes - it is fiddly and complicated, and most of the time you can't put the marriage details on. It seems to have a mind of its own. I agree with you Bridget on the number of relatives you can get by putting on those via marriage (I have nearly 24000) everyone is connected but so, so tentatively.

Have a great weekend everybody, love to all, prayers for those who need them (that's all too!) - keep warm, or dry or cool wherever you are <3 <3

Gerard :-) :-)

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 11 Feb 2012 14:01

When I add a marriage partner I also add their parents. Have been known to add their siblings too. This can help when looking for "lost relatives" as they might be staying with in-laws. and have their surname wrongly transcribed.

I have a little over two thousand people on my tree, so difficult to remember them all! Have to play "give us a clue" with myself ... i.e. look up some info. on that branch of the family and the rest falls into place (well sometimes it does).
Find it interesting to see what various members of the family do.

Sometimes they lead contrasting life styles. For example I have a youngster in my tree who was transported for theft. His paternal uncle wrote church music and was very well known in his day.

Gerard, I'm in the West Midlands, like London we have clear blue skies sun is out but rather cold.

Hope that everyone is well.

Don't overdo things Bridget, you have earned your retirement.

Good afternoon dear Cyber Friends.

Well yesterday we were just finishing the general chores and the was a sudden lond BANG and as we rushed to the kitchen we saw a disaster!
Hundreds of tiny pieices of glass, thank goodness it was safety glass so in tiny squares rather than shards. The door to the cooker which my stepson brought from his friends in Holland had been playing up for the last week, it would not completely shut..not a large space so thought it was OK.....obviously it was not OK!!

OH cut his finger luckily I have all the write equipment for such events and his cut is healing very well. The price of a new door is frightening.....and was told that we can still use it to cook but I will buy a new cooker in the next few months but not such an expensive one!

Not going to uk one until April...but seeing new granddaughter every other day on Skype....her great grandmother aged 91 is in hospital in Ireland and is not very well and desperately wants to see her latest Great Granchild.

No other news so going to say bye bye for today

Bridget

Still very cold here in Norfolk

I am getting used to the new tree now. Possibly because they have ironed out some hiccups.

Bridget, sorry to hear about your cooker door. My main oven is capput, can still use the hob and the small oven/grill (which isn't very good).

Not sure wheather to get oven repaired (needs a new element). or buy a new cooker.

Also having a bit of trouble with dish-washer (it's second hand) and freezer (it's rather old) Thinking of getting a new tv. One I have got at the moment is old and small (well at least it is a colour one).

So will possibly be spending loads of money soon.

It is warmer here now (around 40 degrees F)
Have just been adding some info onto the Welsh part of my tree. Found some of them moved to Norfolk, between 1911 and 1918. Parents died there and children married there (Docking) So I'm off to try to get more info about people and place.!

(That is if computer doesn't start playing up again)

That happened to my sister, years ago, with the oven not a happy experience...hope you get it sorted out !

Snow now thawed in our part of Norfolk but still very cold

Have tried a soup recipe today, so wll post on Culinary Delights.

Keep warm

That happened to our oven door in the 80s Bridget, although the cooker was fairly old, the firm gave us a new door free. quite frightening at the time isn't it?

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 13 Feb 2012 23:29

It must have been very scary when you heard the BANG!
How fortunate noone was in the kitchen at the time.

At least with mine, the heat part of the oven just stopped working (part-way through cooking a meal).
The light and fan are still working fine!

Berona Report 15 Feb 2012 23:19

The current trend here in Oz, is to have a gas cooktop and electric oven. When my previous home was built, the area was new and didn't have gas, so there was no choice. Everything was electric. For the next (almost) fifty years, I always used electric stoves - even though gas was brought into the area. I had become so used to all-electric.
When I sold the home and moved here five years ago, I couldn't manage the gas stove top at all, and was scared I would gas myself - until my son followed the line of pipes and found that whoever installed the stove had failed to switch the gas ON!! There was only a tiny flicker of flame coming out of one jet and nothing from the others. Once he turned it ON - hey, presto!!

I am a little down at the moment. My usual (very) low energy plus depression and anxiety plus tomorrow will be the ninthe anniversary of my Mum's death.

She died while I was on a "holiday of a lifetime" with my brother.

My Dad had been in the army, one of the places we lived in as children was Malaysia. I was making my fist trip there since we left in 1960.

Was looking at many of the places we knew, plus met some old friends and neighbours. I was longing to get home to tell her all about it...

Except we got a phone message (while in Penang) to say that she was very ill and likely to die.
She died before we got home.
So I was never able to say good-bye ot to tell her about all the things I saw, (and smelt and heard and ate).

I had been longing to say "do you remember ....." about an awful lot of things. It just didn't happen.

A long time ago on this thread Bridget (or Ann) suggested we write about our "Holiday of a Lifetime" well my dream holiday of a lifetie would have been to go on this holiday with my Mum (as well as my brother).
She could have experienced all these things for herself. I know she would have loved it.

Sorry I am so miserable, just needed to talk to someone.

Oh Tess, so sorry to read that you are down, sorry too that I haven't been on here for a few days. Been decorating..

I am sure though that you have lots of lovely memories of your Mum, and those are very special, and yours alone. It is 11 years this year since my son died, and I miss him every day,, but I cherish deep inside me all those memories , that we alone shared. I sorted out his photos finally the other day, and kept the ones that really mean something to me....I only got tearful over one photo, and that was because it was a particularly poignant.

Do hope you are feeling better now ...hug down the line X

Hello to you all and my apologies for not being on here recently. I have felt very tired some days and rather lethargic, so took my own advice and did just what I could and triied not to worry. Feeling much better now.
I had a Skype meeting with my new grandchild earlier this evening,,,she has gained weight and is now nearly 7 lbs. She certainly likes her food and whilst bot=h parents look very tired they also look very happy.

I will say an extra Prayer for all of you who are sad, or feeling down for one reason on another. Must say that my prayers are not always those you might think as quite often I get a bit cross with my person and I feel comfortable they were very clear to be able to do so...Must be that Convent that I went to and the Priest we had...the Jesuits!

At last we have some warm weather in fact we did not have to wera heavy coats when we went to the shops and that was very uplifting.
Well I am going back to the sitting room now as there is a coffee waiting for me so Bye Bye for now

It was a balmy 19o C here today in sunny Norfolk ! It was warmer than some of the summer we had last year............!!!

Finally finished decorating our conservatory, just a few tweaks now with putting stuff back. Have also been under the eaves in our attic room, getting rid of a load of rubbish. Only two more cupboard to go !!!!!!!!!! Very cathartic, getting things sorted...no more hoarding.......will recycle loads and give some to charity shops.

Bliss can be an empty cupboard I have decided !

Keep well everyone X

Sorry I haven't been on for ages - but I have been reading all the threads. I am so pleased that Genes have relented and given me my old tree back - I can get my names on so much quicker now.

I am writing this from London on a beautiful, if chilly, February day.

Well OH has got work for another two hours every day - that makes 30 a week - and she is finally free from the Jobcentre. I am really proud of her. She is going to need a rest in the afternoons, but I will make sure she gets that.

Things are looking up all round - I am feeling optimistic this week.

Trust every one is well - I look forward to reading more good news about new babies and the like.

Prayers will be said and candles will be lit = Lent is upon us and the Church looks bleak with no flowers and bare with the Lenten array covering the altar, the rood and all the pictures - but Easter will arrive soon and all will be on view again - something to look forward to.

Lots of Love
Gerard
