Right - I would like an inteligent explanation of this scenario - from either sex. I am not being contentious - sexist - or chauvanistic here.........
I am as a mere male - simply baffled about something that has fascinated me all my married life.....

You are both going out for the evening - maybe to dinner,
Herself goes upstairs to find something to wear - gone forever,
Eventually appears in chosen outfit........
She asks " Does this look ok"
He replies..." Yes, that's fine - you look very nice"
Whereupon, she disappears back upstairs, gone forever,
and reappears in something completely different!
and doesn't ask for another opinion..........

I have wondeered about this - and should hate to go to my grave never knowing.......
So answers please

Tec.

Tec,

Seek not to know the ways of the Sisterhood.

With me it's time. If we are going out I'll shave shower put on a nice clean shirt etc, ready in twenty minutes.

When I remind OH of the time, I get... 'I'll be ready in a couple of minutes'

Meantime I can be halfway through a good novel before OH puts in an appearance!

Good Morning Berona..........

Hope you've been practising.......

Do you remember Lena Horne singing

" A New Fangled Tango"
There's just nothing to it,
You just sort of stand there,
And just sort of do it"

Regards

Tec, when I ask my OH how I look I've already decided one way or the other. We ladies can tell just by the tone of voice, the fact that your dear faces go blank and you won't meet our eyes that perhaps it's not as nice as you would have us believe. Personally I don't want "nice" I want "sensational". If I go and get changed it's what I was probably going to do that anyway and want no further input. On occasion I will walk into the room and my OH's eyes will light up and he'll say "mmm...very nice". I'll keep that outfit on:))

Berona, we've been heavily involved with our children's sport. Soccer, softball, cricket and baseball. Two children played at state level - club and school. Loved it all. My husband is now a strapper for the local soccer club but he has coached juniors for many years. I've washed more sports shirts than I care to count and have sold many meat pies on a Saturday morning. It's exhausting but fun and at least we did it together as a family.

Sue..........

If I said " Sensational" to my OH

I would get the LOOK...........

A guy can't win - it's all too complicated

Why can't women be simple - like us?

Yes I did rather dig myself into a hole there didn't I,

And I expect they would let you keep Paddington, and a jar of marmalade.

Well much I would like to stay - I have to bed

So have a great Monday my Aussie friends

Goodnight everyone

Congratulations to the English on the cricket. Also to Allan, who is suddenly an Englishman again.
Sadly, recriminations here started after the third test and really erupted today, much of it focussed on the chief selector and the captain, Ricky Ponting. A lot of it undeserved.
On the other hand, as a non sportsman I get tired of the the Australian sporting media.
Decades ago there was a book about "The Lucky Country" which was actually quite satirical and biting about our attitudes during the Menzies era. I have long believed that, in regard to sport, we are the cocky country and it does little harm to be brought down a peg or two sometimes.

Hello all:))

I had a fantastic weekend, I went to my eldest sisters, 50th birthday last Saturday night. I drank a little too much and boy did I suffer the consequences.
My dear sister had planed a surprise for me that night!!
I asked her the previous week if she would invite our Aunt, who we hadn't seen for quiet some time. My sister told me she wouldn't be able to make it, so I was quietly disappointed.
When I turned up at the restaurant, the whole family were waiting for me to turn up, I am always late!!
As I walked through the door and around the corner, I was greeted by my Aunt!!!! I ran to her and she put her arms around me, I was so overwhelmed I burst into tears of happiness:))

Sue, My OH played softball, local and State level and Baseball (local), Now he only plays masters softball, his next comp is the World Masters(over 45's) in Sydney, but he is unsure if he is going to attend because of work commitments.
In the summer season here, he and my oldest son play softball together, which they both really enjoy, my OH is so proud that now after so many years of asking my son if he would like to play, he finally said yes!!!
They play for the Melbourne Giants Softball club.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.
Have a great day!!

Carole

Tec, you are right - men are simple:))

Colin, always good to see you post. Yes the postmortems will be in the papers and television now regarding the cricket. I think the English team deserved to win to be honest but I don't believe Australia deserves the "slamming" they will get from our media.

Carole I was wondering how your evening went. Obviously very well:)) What a lovely surprise - I wish I could have seen your face when you saw your Auntie. Did you stay overnight in Ballarat? How nice for your OH that he can play sport with your boy. My OH and youngest son play golf together and the older son too when he's visiting. Our daughter also likes to play but doesn't often get the chance.

Tonight OH and I are off to a trivia night. We have the chance - with others - to win some money for charity. It should be fun:))

Talk to you all later. Enjoy the rest of the day Aussies - and you Poms I hope you slept well and dreamt of the Ashes:))

Hello, to all: SueMaid, Berona, Linda, Hanet, Carolee,Diane, Posh (ladies first, of course), Allan, Tec & Colin, and everyone else who visits from time to time.

Have been AWOL lately - found I was spending too much time in front of the screen and neglecting other things. Nothing to do with the quality of theconversation on this site, even if I am only a listener at times! Also, youngest son (22) had a few days off work (he's an apprentice chef at a big hotel, works shifts) and he spends hours playing those combat/war games on line with people all over the world apparently - you just can't get him off ( he's always in the middle of a battle??)

SueMaid, what a lovely party your grandson had. I'm sure all thechildren, and the adults, had a wonderful time. It can be a costly business these days, with a lot of parents giving their children parties at outside venues and sometimes inviting the whole of the child's school class. Made and decorated a few birthday cakes myself, including one like a cricket oval with a player, bat, ball and stumps, and a fence of choc finger biscuits around the outside.

Speaking of cricket.....Congratulations to the winning English side and their fans. Everyone loves to be a winner, but if the opposition is better on theday, what can you do? Just wait till next time!!! Oldest son went with his mates to the Carribean for the World Series. Had a great time, and I actually saw him on the telly. I don't normally watch cricket but I stayed up late waiting for the cameras to pan over to the crowd hoping I would see them. I phoned him on his mobile and he told me where he was sitting, and what they were wearing. It was easy to spot them as they were wearing Afro wigs and colourful baggy dresses they bought at the markets!!

Linda, I hope your mother's health is improving. I am sure she will appreciate you looking after her when she returns home. My own mother spent quite a few years in and out of hospital with emphysema, and my sister and I both lived interstate with families, with only my brother left in Sydney. He did as much as he could; he was still working at the time and lived about 45 mins drive from Mum, but my sister-in-law did nothing - not even ring Mum to see how she was and offer to help her. It still upsets me when I think about not being there when she needed me.

Tec - you are probably in the land of nod now, dreaming of steam trains, tangoing with Berona, laying carpet with your faithful labrador at your side, or being chased by angry blondes. As I am not a blonde I did not take offence at your jokes with Allan (a.k.a.Paddington), but have wondered what it would be like to be blonde for a day. Do they really have more fun?

Why do women take so long to get dressed? We want to look as best we can so that we compliment our husbands/partners. If you are wearing the right outfit you will be happy and relaxed all night (and not get b--chy and take it out on OH). At least that's my excuse! Never get a comment from OH - I therefore (maybe mistakenly) assume I always look good, or he is just relieved that I am finally ready and bites his tongue!

It is his birthday today, and as I have notyet got him a gift (the man who has everything) I am off to the shops.

Hope you are all well, and have a good day.

Bye bye from Susan....

Hello again all!!

Sue.... Yes we did all stay in Ballarat that night, but I only got about 2 hours sleep!! I forgot to take my pillow and my younger sister snores, it felt like I was at home in my own bed!! except I couldn't kick her!!!
I also had lost my voice, probably from too much singing and talking!!

Hi Susan:))

I hope all you Aussies have a nice evening:))
Good morning Pommies, enjoy your day:))

Don't know what happened to the high temperatures we were promised to-day. It started out nice, but turned cold and windy quite early here.

Linda. How is your Mum? Hope everything is stabilized and she returns home very soon. Will be thinking of you.

Allan - are you like this? When Australia was winning the cricket, my OH would say "They can't beat us Aussies, can they!" then when England looked like winning, it would be "Us Pommies are showing you Australians how to play real cricket". He was very selective - depending on who was winning at the time!

Good morning everyone, although it is almost lunchtime now.

I have been running round trying to catch up on all the chores,it is amazing what can pile up in just a few days. Poor old OH looked so pathetic when I got back, apparently we hadn't any bread left. Well no ,as I make it and he had eaten it,there wouldn't be any. It doesn't seem to have occurred to him that they do sell it in shops.

There seem to have been so many points covered overnight, as I read them I was trying to make a mental note of what I wanted to comment on, but of course now I have forgotten it all.

The sporting reminiscences brought back memories of the many years I too spent ferrying the children round and acting as their personal taxi service. My son played hockey (the field variety) and my daughter studied ballet right up until she went to uni. I was massively involved in the dance as keeper of the dancing school costumes. Her ballet teacher produced a huge show in the local theratre every year,so that involved a phenomenal amount of work from the mums committee

My daughter still dances and takes part in regular performances, though now it is with a Salsa dance troupe. I must say that the costumes are certainly more raunchy than the ballet ones.

I am glad that the various parties and stays away went well, it is nice to hear about people enjoying them selves. The talk of cakes reminded me that I still have a book of Party Cakes. Looking back I am pretty amazed at some of the masterpieces I managed to produce, given my lack of artistic ability.

When I looked at mums drug chart yesterday, I saw that they are giving her Potassium tablets, they had mentioned that her blood Potassium levels were low. So I have been googled low blood Potassium and lots of her symptoms such as the terrible spasms she is having in her legs, the irregular heart beat and lots of other things are classic results of low Potassium. I hope the doctors have googled as well. I will see how she is when I visit this afternoon.

No rest for the wicked,so I shall continue with my chores.
