Greeting’s Folks…..

29th. May is 'Royal Oak Day' or 'Oak Apple Day'.
The date celebrates the escape and restoration of King Charles II.
After his exile, the king entered London on 29th. May 1660, his birthday.

After the Battle of Worcester, Charles II famously hid in an oak tree
in the woods of Boscobel House.
Royal Oak Day was celebrated by placing oak leaves
in the hat and branches over the door.

James' first wife, Anne Hyde, was the daughter of Charles II's advisor, Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon and a Lady-in-Waiting to his sister, Mary, Princess of Orange.

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 6 May 2009 21:32

Charles II see he was in Netherlands when his father Charles the first was executed Oliver Cromwell was Parlimentarian leader at the time Charles II I beleive was pressured to return to England to repossess the throne he returned incognito {as a woodman I believe} however he was a coward so hid in an Oak tree n was forced back into Europe in exile
~ I believe it was Cromwell's son Richard "tumbledown Dick" who became leader on his fathers death but the people got disillusioned with him and Charless II was installed as King but royalists say he ruled England from 1649 when his Father was executed x

Think Charles II fled to France whilst Cromwell ruled now his mother was French so that was useful ~ he married I think she was a princess from Portugal but they were childless but methinks he managed to have several children elsewhere x
