Kwl heres summat interstin bout him seems he was buried at Windsor Castle and in them days if you had your head chopped off then it was displayed for all to see on the gates of the tower of London not Charles cos they fort there was a curse on him { bit like the curse of Shakespeares bones lol} well he was beheaded at Whitehall on 30th January 1649 but if you go to Windsor it says he died in 1648! x

So well done Eeyore x

Think Charles II fled to France whilst Cromwell ruled now his mother was French so that was useful ~ he married I think she was a princess from Portugal but they were childless but methinks he managed to have several children elsewhere x

RodGee

RodGee Report 6 May 2009 21:19

He was in the Netherlands when, in 1649, he learnt of his father's execution.

Confusing..I thought Cromwell capped off Charles 1. Charles 2 came back after Cromwell was gone. So who was the coward in the tree?

~♥footie~angel♥~ Report 6 May 2009 21:32

Charles II see he was in Netherlands when his father Charles the first was executed Oliver Cromwell was Parlimentarian leader at the time Charles II I beleive was pressured to return to England to repossess the throne he returned incognito {as a woodman I believe} however he was a coward so hid in an Oak tree n was forced back into Europe in exile
~ I believe it was Cromwell's son Richard "tumbledown Dick" who became leader on his fathers death but the people got disillusioned with him and Charless II was installed as King but royalists say he ruled England from 1649 when his Father was executed x

Charles II was a right t@rt had several mistresses and offspring was it not James II who married Mary? x Think James had about 13 children with 2 wives x

RodGee

RodGee Report 6 May 2009 21:38

James' first wife, Anne Hyde, was the daughter of Charles II's advisor, Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon and a Lady-in-Waiting to his sister, Mary, Princess of Orange.
