Hello everyone. I was so surprised when I logged into here. You lovely people have been chatting away, and there was so much news to catch up with.
Sylvia, so you have been out having a spending spree then have you. Good on you girl, you have to get the bargains whilst you can. Are the fires still blazing over there. Will your cabin be safe, or are the fires getting closer to it now. Thank goodness J had some help on her flight. I did wonder how she would cope with the loo etc, having MJ with her.
Sallie how nice of Jenny and Michael's neighbour to take them out for a meal. But as they say, what goes around, comes around. They have been good to her, and this is her way of saying thank you. I wonder if Christie has a cyst on one of her ovaries, that may be causing her the pain. Hopefully they will be able to sort it out quickly for her. I am loving having my grandaughter here. Well I am at the moment, but who knows I could be pulling my hair out soon. Her boyfriend has been with her here, for a lot of the time. But I do think my daughter is feeling guilty about going away without her, as she has been ringing and texting her constantly.
Liz, I really don't know why you are having doubts about your wedding outfit, it looked lovely on you with the jacket. Did you manage to get your undies sorted out. It sounds like your OH's dad doesn't want to be left out, even though he will be at the wedding himself.
Dutch, I can't be bothered with Face Book. It sounds like it causes nothing but trouble all the way round. How is Jan liking being back at work. I bet you miss not having him around, (or do you ). LOL
I forgot that Ann is away again. Honestly my brain is letting me down horridly.
I hope all our friends are well, Jean ,Marie, Tess , Huia , Debbie thinking of you all. Love and best wishes Mo xxx

Hi Mo, and everyone
another sunny day lol! It's going to get to about 21C ........... but there are suggestions that we might have some hotter weather in the next week.
The fires are still out of control ........ and the hotter weather will not help matters. At least the cooler temperatures have not brought any high winds with them, so the fires are not "candling" ............... spreading by flames jumping from tree top to tree top. That makes life a little easier .... and means the fires don't spread over great distances as fast.
We still think the cabin is safe ................ we haven't noticed reports of any fires on that side of the highway in that part of the province. But the air could still be bad.
OH wants to go see the opera students performing on August 30, and we've had an invite this morning to go to a friend's 60th birthday party on September 1st ............. so it looks like we won't be going up until Sept 2 at the earliest!
Interesting thing is that we have something called the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) on in Vancouver this week and next ............ it's been going a long long while, celebrating 100 years this year. It's a mix of county show (agriculture) with auctioning off of the best steer / pig / sheep raised over the past year by youngsters, fair ground, sales demonstrations of all kinds of wonderful gadgets, etc etc. They used to have competitions for best jam, cake, needlework, pickles etc, but I have no idea whether those still take place.
They do have the most superb musical events ....... which are even better this year, with all kinds of world class entertainers. They have spent something like $6 million (around £3 million) on the entertainment. Started off with Bryan Adams on Saturday afternoon. The Beach Boys on Saturday evening.
Michael Buble was also in town!
The tradition is that the PNE spells the end of summer because it always RAINS
We used to go regularly when we were younger, twice ....... once with adult friends and once with J. We almost always got wet on at least one of the trips!
Seems not this year ... at least not this week!
Mo ....... I had to laugh. J said she had to go to the loo while they were off the plane in Toronto. She had to take MJ with her, said she managed to balance and work one handed!
I used to spend a lot of time on Friends Reunited (the sister site), but now visit very rarely, to "see" friends who still post on there. I went for a look see this mroning ...... gawd, it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow.
Don't anyone complain about this site being slow unless you have been over there!
Liz .................. hang in there lass! It'll all be over in a few days ...... and the rest of them may understand what you go through with him!

Hello girls. Peace and quiet rules the house at the moment. My grandaughter has gone shopping with her boyfriend. It was so funny yesterday, I was trying to re-teach her how to knit. One big problem, she is left handed, and I am right handed. It ended up as a no go area. When she had finished the first row, I don't know how she had done it, but the wool was not knitted, even though she had got to the end of the row. Oh my lord, talk about frustrating, we both felt like throwing it across the room, so gave it up as a lost cause. I went to a neighbours funeral today, it was so sad. There was eight of us neighbours, and eight members of her family. We could not believe there were so few family members left. Mind you the lady was 85 years old. We as neighbours, all chipped in for a wreath, but there was only three lots of flowers there. It is pouring with rain here at the moment, very depressing. I hope you are all well. Love and best wishes to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Ladies, yes, I am BACK.........
Poor Ann, it is popuring over here at the moment. I really do hope she manages to find some indoor entertainment. I saw that she asked if I may visit her at the Hotel - it is slightly difficult with the children, but I may try. Not many days left for her though, so it may not work out.
Well, you lot have been busy nattering whilst I have been away. It has taken me the best part of an hour to read all the news & gossip. I will send a general message to all of you for a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARY/CONGRATS ON NEW BABIES" etc, etc.
Oh, Liz, I really hope that Saturday goes well and that the sun shines for you all - or at least, it doesn't rain. So much effort goes into weddings it is simply awful when the weather spoils the day.
It is my Mum & Dads 51st Anniversary on Sunday. Remember last year when my Dad was so very ill, we didn't know if he would make his Golden Wedding, and here we are, one year on. He isn't a well man, but he keeps his spirits up.
TESS, a very warm welcome to you from a very wet Jersey. It is nice to "meet" you, and I hope you find that even though there are a few rather dodgy charachters on here (you know who you are :-)), you find the majority of us to be gentle with you and friendly.
I am the "baby" on the thread - only 49 years old, having got married rather later than most at the age of 32 and just this month had my 17th Anniversary. I am married to Peter and we have 4 children who are very active and keep me on my toes.
Our holiday was brilliant. Having said that we may get to Holland or even Austria, we stayed in France and the furthest we got to was just outside Geneva. We prefer to camp in France rather than Switzerland as the sites are nicer and cheaper. But we did go into Switzerland on a couple of days.
We spent 3 nights, in one place then 3 in another on the way to our most southerly site, where we spent 6 nights, then motored for quite some time before spending the last 4 nights about 3 hours from St Malo which is where our boat goes from.
We were very lucky wth the weather and it was hot hot hot all of the time. We had one day of rain and that was one of our travel days, so it worked out well.
We managed to get a swim in most days whether it be in a lake, river, pool or just the open areas of water around the places where we stayed.
We don't visit as many places in the summer as we do when we go away at Easter but we still went to a magnificent castle, ate at a couple of local festivals and generally ate too much, and in my case probably drank too much of the Falling Over Water. Always a good excuse on holiday to sample the local delights!!!!!
Been busy since we got back. Daniel was in Bedford last weekend at the National Outdoor Athletics Championships (Tess, you may be interested ). He wasn't at all well but ran anyway because he was there and he didn't want to miss out on the opportunity having been selected to run. He did ok in his heat of 1500m but was shocked to find out that he had been selected for the final as well, so he ran it.....just and at least was able to say that he had done that particular event. The poor boy was still being sick on the plane coming home on Sunday afternoon. He went to bed as soon as he got home and was fine the next day. I think nerves got the better of him, which is unusual.
This Bank Holiday Monday he is off to Crawley for the day to run at an Invitational Meeting.
Tonight Matthew has got some skills coaching at Footbal training with the English F.A. Skills coaches who are in the Island. It is an honour to have been selected for that.
And, guess what....... As it is a Wednesday, I am out for dinner tonight with a couple of girlfriends. We are going to a beachside restaurant, though will have to sit inside as the weather is awful.. Just going out is special though and I am really looking forward to it.
Right, I'd better be off. Luke & Sophie are trying to do some art which involves melting wax and painting so I had better supervise before they burn the house down - that wouldn't do, would it.
Hope all of you are well and cheerful.
Talk soon.
Debbie xx

Hi Debbie, It's so good to have you back. It sounds like you all had a fabulous time. Did you all sleep in a tent whilst you were away. I bet the children loved the pitching of it if you did. To much falling over water is not good for you, dontcha know. It's o.k falling down, it's the getting up thats my problem. What a shame that it's raining over there, poor Ann and T will be running in and out of the raindrops. And we know what Ann is like for the falling down water, lets just hope she doesn't have to much of it, and do herself more damage. It would be so nice if you and Ann could meet up, it's nice to be able to have personal contact with friends from here. It's a shame you did not manage to get to Holland, it's a lovely place to visit. Still theres always next time. I can't believe it's a whole year since mum and dads 50th anniversary. My word how time flies by. Poor Daniel, competing when he felt unwell in Bedford. But he did very well considering didn't he. Enjoy your meal out tonight. Speak to you soon. Love Mo xxx

Hi all. Oh Jean my love, why is it always you that gets all that is going around, I feel for you babe. Get well very soon. We are both o.k,(fingers crossed.) My nephew had another fit a couple of days ago. They have kept him in hospital for more tests. Just as he was starting to go back to work for a couple of days a week, he now feels as if he is back to square one. My grandaughter is eating me out of house and home. Cor has she got an apetite. I know that neither Roly or I are big eaters, but crikey moses, she will have a bigger dinner than us, and still continue to eat during the evening. I am surprised she is not the size of a house. She is only a size 12 in clothes, and I suppose it's because she is so energetic she burns the calories off. Take care. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick look in, to see how you all are.
Debbie, it's nice to see you home again. Pleased that you all had a good holiday.
Liz, hope the wedding goes well tomorrow, and that your OH will be on his best behaviour. Try and stay calm, and remember that by this time on Sunday it will all be over.
Jean, sorry that you haven't been very well, I hope that you are feeling a bit better now. We were going to go out for a meal for our anniversary tomorrow, but I'm not sure if we'll be able to go now, as Alun isn't feeling very well, he's got a very heavy cold, shivery and aching all over. He's done nothing but doze since he came home from work this afternoon. So will have to wait and see how he is tomorrow.
Mo, you sound as though you're really enjoying having your granddaughter stay with you. How much longer is she with you for? It's amazing how much the young people seem to eat. I don't remember if we ate like that when we were young.
Are you going anywhere over the Bank Holiday? We never go anywhere on a Bank Holiday because it's always so crowded wherever we go, so we prefer to stay at home.
Ann, I hope that you and T had a lovely anniversay today, and that you've also had a good holiday in Jersey.
Marie, Huia, Dutch and Sylvia, I hope that you are all okay.
Speak to you all tomorrow.
Love and best wishes to you all. Sallie. xxx

Jean, thank you for your anniversary wishes. Alun is feelimg a bit better today, but still doesn't feel a 100%, so we've decided that we'll go for a meal another time. We've been out just to get a few things that we needed, we weren't out long, but Alun was glad to get home.
I hope you are feeling better today. Are you and J going anywhere over the weekend?
I'm still ploughing on with the card making, the fair that I was originally making them for is today, I got mixed up with date I'm afraid. They have another fair in November so they can have the cards for that one, plus a few more.
I hope everyone is alright. I'll speak to you soon.
Hope you all enjoy the Bank Holiday!
Love and best wishes. Sallie. xxx

Hello girls, how are you all. It's been heaven today, my grandaughter has gone to her boyfriends mums for the day. I took advantage of the fact of her not being here, to change her bed linen. My word, I wish my daughter had taught her to take her make up of before going to bed. The quilt cover, and pillow slips were covered in foundation. I think I shall be giving her a lesson in make up removal, before she goes home on friday. It's been another awful day here in Kent. We had very heavy rain this afternoon, I had to make a quick run into the garden to get the washing of the line. My son is of to Scotland on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, they are going up to visit granny up there. They have borrowed our car, and we have got theirs. The problem is, I can't drive it, it's to big for me to see over the bonnet, and it frightens the life out of me. We have a ford focus and theirs is a vauxhall calibre, very sporty, but also very juicy, hence the borrowing of our car, it's more economical on the petrol. I wonder if Ann and T are back from their holiday in Jersey yet. I know that Debbie said that they have had quite a lot of rain over there. I hope the wedding went well for Liz. Take care girls, love Mo xxx

Just a quickie to say yes we are back, will write more about our week tomorrow but meanwhile I have to say many thanks for the cards Sallie and Jean. And to Debbie, thank you so much for the card and surprise parcel, they are lovely, we didn't actually go to the pottery this time but we are so pleased with them. I am sorry we were unable to meet up but I had guessed that you were, as usual, probably too busy. Did you change the name on the address, I noticed it originally had my maiden name which may have confused the hotel but it had been changed. Did you write and thereby hangs a tale after you had crossed out my maiden name and inserted our married name? It gave us a giggle as we had something very similar happen when on honeymoon. Anyway, you were very naughty and I didn't expect it but thank you so much.

On the Friday before we went away, we were at our daughter’s and we all went out to celebrate our third grandson getting four A levels. Daughter and SiL paid and we had a lovely meal at a Tapas restaurant in Winchester. On the Saturday we had a family party to celebrate our Golden wedding, there were thirteen of us (born on the thirteenth I am not superstitious.) That included my sister and our eldest grandson’s partner. SiL did us a lovely barbecue and his mother who is in her eighties had made us a lovely rich fruit cake. Daughter had then bought a Sainsbury’s sponge and iced and decorated the fruit cake. The sponge was placed as the top tier of the cake so it looked like a wedding cake, that was a lovely surprise. As T and I were sitting next to each other on the settee talking we realised that the room had emptied and then the family all filed back in and stood in a row facing us. Granddaughter (8) came over and gave me a gift bag. Inside was a CD of Love Never Dies which we thought was rather nice for the occasion. Then suddenly an envelope was given to T by Youngest grandson numbered 2 which was theatre tickets for Love Never Dies in London on 23rd October. That was a wonderful present as well. Then Next grandson gave me an envelope numbered 3 which was a beautifully designed card that had a message “Exchange me for 2 train tickets to London”. Then next grandson gave T an envelope numbered 4 which contained hotel reservations for 3 nights at the Swissotel the Howard in Temple Place, Then Eldest grandson gave me an envelope numbered 5 which had another card in which said “Exchange me for £400 spending money. Phew what a wonderful present we were ‘gobsmacked’ and haven’t come down from floating on air yet. It was a real surprise that Son and Daughter had hatched between them. Our week in Jersey was lovely. The weather was not brilliant but we still had three afternoons when we were able to sunbathe on our hotel balcony from where we had a wonderful view of St Aubins bay right round from Elizabeth castle at St Helier to the harbour at St Aubins. We did get drenched on one occasion when we had gone by bus to Rozel when the weather was fine, just as we sat by the quay with a coffee there were a few spots of rain, within minutes it was a downpour and when we went for the bus we had 10 minutes to wait in the rain with no shelter at all. Luckily we both had raincoats. The rain stopped while we were on the bus then started again as we got odd and walked to our hotel. We looked like drowned rats when we got back. Thank goodness for heaters in rooms and heated towel rails!

We bought a 5 day bus pass which meant we could hop on and off buses as we wanted. We didn’t really visit the attractions as we had been before except for Jersey Pearl and Jersey Gold and the Museum at St Helier. Jersey gold we didn’t think much of this time, we felt it had changed from when we were there 10 years before. Jersey Pearl we went to twice. Once when we bought watches to commemorate our Golden wedding and the second time to buy me a pair of earrings. We were pleasantly surprised at how cheap the restaurant was and how good the food looked. We had sandwiches as we’d had a big breakfast and they were lovely and fresh. The museum we thought was excellent, very well done and informative especially the film. Strange to find that we were almost part of history as the film had pictures of 1957 and our first visit to Jesey before we were married was in 1958. We recognised all the old coaches and the little streets of St Helier. One thing we could learn to live without was the horrendous traffic, narrow roads and lots of cars, a nightmare for drivers especially with the buses hurtling around. The buses are very well used, always full with people standing. On our anniversary we had a full day out then a lovely meal in the evening when I had Crab, avocado and tempura prawn to start followed by then raspberry sorbet, then half a lobster and salad with Jersey Royals followed by hot bakewell tart, raspberry coulis and icecream. (Yes I did put on weight). T had asparagus soup, sorbet, Sirloin steak and cheese and biscuits. All accompanied by a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Then we had a surprise parcel arrive from Debbie who lives in st Helier, naughty girl but a lovely gift of two pretty mugs from jersey pottery and a lovely card too thank you so much Debbie., we were thrilled. We went mostly all over the Island by bus so the tickets worked well. Then on Saturday when we had no bus pass we walked from the hotel out to st Aubin, it was a lovely sunny day and we really enjoyed the walk out and back, then we ended the holiday with an afternoon sunbathing on the balcony. The flights out and back were trouble free and quick (just over thirty minutes), a bit bumpy on the way home as it was very windy as it had been all week. Eldest grandson met us at the airport in Southampton and we collected out car from daughters and were home just after 7pm.
