Thought Bohemian Rhapsody spanned 2 years....A night at the opera was a brilliant album, i remember the boyfriend at the time {the one with the Kawasaki 900} was always playing it, along with Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells...

Tell your OH she has excellent taste if shes a Robbie and Take That fan.....I`m taking eldest daughter to the concert in July, she saw them in December 2007 at the 02 arena,in the same concert they did on New Years Eve that year, she said they were brilliant.

Rod Stewart and Elton John were my favourites during my school days, {after the Bay city Rollers finished of course!!}, and always loved the Who and Roger Daltrey.

Blondie, yes Pam another great band from that era....Parrallel Lines was an excellent album.

Will Young, yes its funny, theres something about him that attractive, but i`m not sure what it is......... I love his voice.....Evergreen is still the top selling ballad of the noughties, or at least was before xmas, it may now .have been over taken by Halleluiah.


Wev`e mentioned Rocky, how about Rambo? the first one was very good, there hadn`t been anything like it before, but feel the next 2 were too far fetched.

When I used to work shifts in the 80s I used to get five days off in every 15. Nights were a doddle as well - sometimes we'd only work for 2-3 hours. Spent most of the time off in front of the TV either watching the afternoon film or videos with dad. We used to go the cinema a lot in those days too ... so I guess that's where I get it from.

Hello Nicky - yes I thought "First Blood" was a great film. Rambo (the second one) kind of made me snigger a bit, especially where he comes out of the mud to get the Russian Spetznaz soldier and blow up the Vietnamese officer with the exploding arrow!

I think the telling thing about Rambo 3 was that he was in Afghanistan helping the Mudjahadeen fight the Russkies - funny how times change!

I suppose after Queen, my favourite bands were UFO, AC/DC and Rainbow when I was at secondary school. I'm also a big Bruce Springsteen fan - I remember seeing him in 1981 at Wembley and he played nearly all night long - they turned the lights on after about his fifth encore and he still kept playing.

Yes I liked Blondie too - but I think most teenage boys did!! There aren't any female artists around at the moment who appeal (musically of course) - but I do have a big thing for Allanah Myles (she sung "Black Velvet") who was recording from about 1988-98.

Tell you a band that I really liked in the eighties and most people go...Who? when I mention them, but I bet one of you two will know them...Roachford. They did singles like Cuddly Toy and This Generation. Andrew Roachford the lead singer was booked to play at the UEA in Norwich, I was all excited about going to see them and all that flooding a few years back happenned and it was cancelled!

My daughter bought me Beverly Knights' greatest hits cd which I play a lot in my car, she's got a teriffic voice. My hubby loves that song Black Velvet. I have to say I like all different kinds of music and even some of the club/dance stuff that my kids like.

Hi Pam, yes I remember the name Roachford, none of the songs come to mind though. I guess I was too busy in the 80s following the likes of INXS and Simple Minds.

I was also a big fan of the Pretenders - I thought James Honeyman-Scott was a greatly underrated guitarist (another one who died too early). My friends all say I am a jinx on bands - spot the common denominator amongst all the following ones that I've seen:

Long Good Friday with Bob Hoskins, Helen Mirren, Dave King to name but a few. I love this film, it was a bit violent in parts but not over the top stuff. Very well acted of course and with some wonderful London landmarks. Think it was made 1978/9 as it was a little while before we had our son. Great film.

Yes they were very good The Pretenders and of course INXS. I love all their stuff. I go on you tube a lot and watch all the suiff from years ago. Did you know both guitarists died from The Pretenders Ed, the dark haired one is the one I fancied (yes brown eyed ) and the fair one, think he was the lead guitarist, they both died. The only two original members are Chrissy Hind of course and the drummer.

Hubby loves Led Zep and Deep Purple too.

Yes, I like the Long Good Friday too. It also had a young Pierce Brosnan in it (the terrorist who kidnaps Bob Hoskins in his car at the end), the guy who plays Sergeant Patrick Harper in Sharpe was the stock-car driver as well, and whatisname who plays Charlie Fairhead in Casualty was in it too.

Someone also told me that just before filming began on the Long Good Friday, Bob Hoskins had a 40' tapeworm in his gut - Now that's what I call trivia!!

Does anyone remember The Pride and the Passion with Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren? It's set in the Penninsular War and about a huge cannon that is abandoned by the retreating Spanish army and is recovered by a group of Guerrillas to lay siege to a French stronghold?

It was based on a novel called "The Gun" by C.S. Forester.

No I haven't seen that one Ed, sounds more my hubby's cup of tea though.

You know i've been reading my Dirk Bogarde book. Well I remember seeing him a film with him in it, and I cant for the life of me remember the title, but it was awful. He plays this camp black leather clad cowboy, don't think he was meant to be camp actually. oh but it was dreadful, he was mincing about all over the place. Ed, you know most films...any ideas what one this is? I'm off to bed soon, but I'll leave you to try to fathom out what one it is. I know I didn't dream it, but I can't remember the name. Think it was one of his earlier ones.

He was an interesting character Hemmingway - I think To Have and Have Not was based loosely on his experiences as an ambulance driver in WW1 in Italy (there was a film made in the 90s with Chris O'Donnell and Sandra Bullock called In Love and War about him), and likewise For Whom the Bell Tolls about his experience in the Spanish Civil War.

I remember reading bits of Death in the Afternoon, yes I know a book like that possibly shouldn't be read in bits, but I don't agree with his take on bullfighting. Apart from that Ed I don't know much about him.

I'm sure I've seen those films, as I know all the titles and they sound so familiar. My memories not as good as yours Ed!
