How about..the debate that single mums on working families tax credit seem better off than working , married parents?
now thats not me being biased, its an observation from work, the ladies who are single seem to be better off than the families where both parents work.


is this a possibility?

I have just come off income support as I have started my own business and am self employed working over 16 hours a week..... I will get working tax credits as a lone parent....which will come to around £30 more than I got before on IS...... obviously how long that continues and at what rate (it's on a sliding scale) depends on how much money the business makes (if any lol) .

The ladies i have spoken too get a reduction on council tax and help towards rent, on is a lady recently divorced, she said she is £450 a month better off now she isnt married.

There is a seperate scale for Council Tax & Housing Benefit.

Anyone can apply - you don't have to be on IS or JSA etc...... It's geared to your income

Anyone can actually apply for any benefit. Then depending upon the criteria an award may, or may not, be made.

Really, there's only one way to find out. If you are finding things a struggle make a visit to the DWP - it's statistically proven that a large proportion of eligble people don't actually claim........

with regard to the coucil tax benefit, as Tony sayss anyone can apply...and it will depend on whether you are classed as being 'low income' .

with the working tax credits I have been told that if the business makes a certain amount or over, then the rate will go down to around half....and so on. If you have been on IS or JSA for a certain period you will be able to claim it whether or not you have a child...
