Predujice is that something we all come in contact with from
time to time, i feel sure you the reader have.Sometimes because
your poor, perhaps because your wealthy,because your a girl
or you have a different skin colour.
Having given the matter thought i have come to the conclusion
for those who practice it, surely its like wearing a veil.
THE VIELS OF PREDUJICE

The covering veils of predujice
hangs heavy oer the eyes
Blinds a man to sound advice
makes hesitant, those wise
dismisses beauty with contempt
in kindness reads alternitive
its own vile piosons does invent
with thoughts impure conservative
ridicules empathy-snorts at love
acts cold-cutting and precise
burns olive branch-devours the dove
beneath the veils of predujice.

It occurs to me predujice blinds the user
to the beauty found al'round and within
all nationalities of man

having worked with varying "groups " of people over the years,i have encountered several types of prejudice,personally i just see people.

I don't like the word preducice (sorry spelling).As I hope I am NOT.To me every human is just another person,I don't give 2 hoots as to where we all come from.I don't care what colour ,we are .We are peeps who hopefully embrace everyone

...I see it as ignorance..and being judemental..comparing our lives/upbringings..relating it to people that may not `fit` into our `ideal`..
Its a case of not judging a book by its cover..Oh there are many Cliches..
Being Predudice...to me..is wearing blinkers...so not quite a veil...but still hinders ones eyesight..

Prejudice can be buried deep inside and you don't even realise it's there. I have a special needs grandchild and a dear friend who is such a warm kind person asked how she is going and told me that she had seen a group of "them" out with their carers and what sweet people "they" are. My friend would have been shocked if I had questioned her wording.

This is where the hypocrisy comes out in people, it must be said.

I am grossly prejudiced and admit it. I am prejuduced against thieves, con men, burglars, all types of criminals and hooligans. So not everyone is worthy of equal treatment in my mind.

And I am no different to the majority of people here when you look at posts from the recent past.

People wanting margaret thatcher buried in a dustbin, gary glitter tortured and mutilated, etc etc - not to mention the things wished upon my humble good self.

So prejuduce is alive and kicking. And always will be - but perhaps that is justifiable prejudice?

exactly Sue,ive been reading a thread tonight and saw to my horror (not that it was at all meant to be offensive) that people were talking about a child "who was downes".......rather than a child "who had downes syndrome"...i suppose alot of it is old school,not in any way meant to be prejudice

..I think we all have a bit of predudice hidden within us..whatever it is..(the ones Elderick has described..Extreme..no one likes hooligans.theifs suchlike)..For me...I hate people that swear every other word...spit on the streets..are blatantly rude..and the Vicky Pollards of the world..And yes Elderick you are right..too much hypocrasy

My grandaughter has downes syndrome and yes it is an expression that is often used. I too don't think it's prejudice as such. Just pointing out that she is "different". Her paediatrician said something that stuck in our minds - "there are more "normal" things about her than "not normal" and what's normal anyway"?

`normal` is what society says it is..and governed by stats..questionnaires..and the law of averages...

Prejudice = pre-judging.

Judging an individual purely on a group characteristic is prejudice.

Judging an individual based on the individual's past performance is common sense.

The classic example we were always taught was:

Eww! Eggs! I hate eggs! I'm not going to eat eggs!
-- Have you ever tried an egg?
Eww! No! Eggs are disgusting.

That's being prejudiced against eggs. Pre-judging them without experiencing them.

Me, I puked when my mum tried to feed me eggs when I was six months old. Eggs still nauseate me. I'm not prejudiced against eggs. I know eggs, and I don't like eggs.

Eggs, of course, are fungible. One egg is the same as any other egg, assuming it isn't rotten.

One person isn't the same as any other person.

So judging Person A based on one's experience with Person B, even if they're both the same colour, is prejudice.

Thus endeth the lesson for today.

It is so difficult now to know the right thing to say.Do we say black,brown .coloured ,white.Learning difficulties .

Oh, and you can be prejudiced both in favour of and against someone/something!

And wanting Margaret Thatcher buried in a dustbin isn't prejudice. It's rational hatred.

Unfortuantely I think it is a common affliction of us `labelling` people..if they have a condition..such as Downs Syndrome, for eg. Labelling isnt quite the same as being predudice though..(i.m.a)
