Helen, you don't need to do that just click the last reply arrow so the last reply comes up first. However a new thread is fine with me.

why not just continue on this thread Helen. Not looking forward to the panel not having the expertise of Arlene and also Karen has been dropped from the professionals and Camilla has left. Wonder what the new professionals will be like.

Margaret Report 20 Aug 2009 19:33

Yes Helen, you made such an excellent job of it last year, I think we can safely leave it to you to either (a) continue on from this one or (b) start us all off on a new one.

Cheeky so-and-so aren't I ???

Roll on Strictly - hope they have some interesting contestants covering the whole age range.

Hi Helen,
I thought that I would leave it to you to start a thread for this year.

Interesting about the result being at the end of each dancing program.

I'm looking forward to it yet again.

Bring on the dancers ............

Hello folks,
how you all been doing? Just seen on BBC Ceefax that they are dropping the Sunday night results show for the new series. Viewers will see couples complete, face the public vote and have the dance off all in a single extended programme on a Saturday night. should be interesting, the spoilers on the Strictly website will now be out of a job.

right whose gonna be the one to start the thread for the new series then?

I got into Strictly web site, not BBC, and someone on there said they could not get into voting for Rachel as lines were closed, but her friend got in for Tom. What does that say?

Opinion is that it was rigged by BBC because Tom is another one of their people.

I still think John Sargeant messed it up for all.

Yes Norah - you are quite right - it reminded me of 'Barnam' too and at the time I enjoyed that very much. Keep dancing folks and all have a very Happy Christmas and a Good, Healthy New Year. Bye for now.

Wonderful performances from all three couples.

Tom and Camilla's show dance certainly swung it for them.

Did anyone else find it reminiscent of Torvill and Dean's 'circus' performance on ice which was also a winner many moons ago?

I will be watching next year too. Have enjoyed this series, as well as reading and adding to this thread.
So thanks Helen for starting it.

Although I was disappointed that Tom won, I don't think that he and Camilla can be blamed in any way for the "moving of the goal-posts"

I thought that Rachel and Vincent were the better dancers and was disappointed for them.

But, once we had got down to the final two, it was completely up to the general public which couple would win. So the public can only blame themselves.

I also think that Rachel will have done a lot for her career, as she danced so well and had made a great improvement.
She did, after all, break more records than anyone else!

So chin up Rachel, you did really well and should be proud of yourself.

Vincent did some really beautiful and tender correography (sp?) and the two of them made the dances work. I believed the stories their dances told every time.

I also think that Tom picked up some of the Austin votes and that Camilla picked up some sympathy votes.

I have decided to take up weaving instead of knitting, as I reckon that a loom is harder to loose amoung my (family tree) paper work than knitting needles are!

Happy Christmas Everyone,

and as Bruce and Helen say "Keep Dancing"

(now where did I put my clogs?)

Well, if all the newspapers and the various sites and polls on the internet are to be believed, it looks as if 'all hell has broke loose' regarding Tom's victory on Saturday. BBC accused of moving the goalposts for Tom's benefit etc. etc. I did not agree with what they did - I think it was ill-timed - but this has undoubtedly, as I suspected, soured Tom and Camilla's victory. Much as I didn't think he deserved to win, I feel sorry for him that the #shine' has been taken off it. It isn't his fault - the fault lies with the Beeb for the decision they made. See you all next year folks.

We have been fans of Tom right from the onset, because we like him in Holby, and despite that he comes from about 12/15 miles up the road from here. We also liked Jodie Kidd, but could see she was strugggling with some dances because of her height.
The Argentinian Tango last week of Lisa and Rachel had me knees knocking, and I was so envious of them. Lovely movements.
And so, I thought it was all over last week for Tom and Camilla. Why,oh why,did they pick the Jive, when his Quickstep was pure showanmanship, and his Foxtrot had us both in tears. We truely, and quite deservedly expected them to be voted off. But the BBC in their wisdom decided to change the rules, and they were back last night. Despite his stumble, we were not 'over'impressed with the performance.
Then, when they came on for the 'show dance' I knew by the way Camilla was dressed, that we were in for a treat. And treat it was, and so fantastic. It was Camilla's sixth season, and the first time she had won.
I did feel sorry for Vincent as his mammy and family had come over from Italy, so it would have been nice if she had seen him win.
Living here, we were treated to short interview on out local radio, with Tom's Aunt Wendy, She called his performance "pure musical theatre". and did let slip that he is no longer in Holby. I know they have probably got a few episodes in the can, but wondered how he was going to be actually written out. Then I remembered back to Tuesday's episode, when he spoke to his son from America, who didn't want to go back to play in a concert. Tom/Sam said he was, and he'd go with him, no matter how long it took. So that is it I suppose.
I'd like to dance with Vincent because he is about my height, and he can Malinga with me, any day of the week.
Saturday night will not be the same again, until next September

I think Rachel and Vincent were better than Tom and Camilla, and just wonder if those that had been voting for Lisa and Brendan, switched their votes to Tom as they did not want Rachel to win.

Must agree with others who think that people should vote for who is the best dancer not who they favour.

The man who owns my hairdressers, kept voting for John Sargeant, as he said he did it just for the fun of it, not because he was a good dancer.
Think BBC should sort this out before another show.

Correct me if I am mistaken but not once during the series did the presenters ask the public to vote for the best dancers.

So it looks to me like the outcome was as it says on the tin. The public voted for the couple they wanted to keep. No problem with that is there?

QED, as my old math teacher would have been proud to say, and well done to the wining couple.

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 20 Dec 2008 22:45

Not quite the result that I was expecting, after all both the other couples danced better than Tom and Camilla in the first two dances.

I had expected Tom to go out, hence my comment about wishing we could see all three of the Show Dances. I thought that Tom and Casmilla might do something rather spectacular!

Although we did get to see Lisa and Brendans Show Dance, I was rather disappointed in the content. I thought that Brendan had gone back to his old ways to show off how good he is at lifting. Yes, I know that the partner has to do a lot so as to be lifted properly, but that doesn't really show in the dance.

I too felt sorry for Rachel and Vincent, they were better than Tom and Camilla.
I thought that Camilla might have got extra points for Tom as she is more popular than Vincent. Also that Tom got more phone calls just because of his SPECTACULAR show dance. Rachel and Vincents being more graceful, moving and precise.

However, having said all that, I enjoyed tonights show. Will miss it.
Maybe I shall have to take up knitting.

Tess

PS If I was able to chose a professional dance partner from Strictly, it would be Anton. He is such a flirt (in a nice way) and he makes me laugh.

I'm glad Tom won. Harder for him being a man...and the last dance,I thought was great.
