Apart from George Coombs mystery nothing much more to throw in the pot.

I think his occupation is the reason why it is so hard to trace him.

Hi

I have had a success story recently with my great, great gran who was born illegitimate in Dec 1863 but whose mother Mary Ann Walder wed Thomas Roberts, a servant, just under 7 months later in July 1864. Thomas admitted fatherhood by baptising the child as his just after he wed the mother. I found that while the mother was pregnant, Thomas was still married and his wife had TB and died just 6 weeks before the birth, which explains everything.

Her death cert said "Phthisis, years certified". That would have given Thomas every chance to have an affair if his wife was laid up dying. They suddenly moved to London from Sussex after the birth.

Hi Joyce,

I am afraid you have stretched the thread so your posts can't be read. It may be the post with the long url on it. To rectify.....go to the post...click on edit and shorten the url by separation.
