I wonder if he was a friend who she took the surname of?

Sarah said in 1841 that she was not born in London and she died in 1851 aged 60 just before the census.

I have just found a marriage on the IGI for a George Coombs to a Sarah Davey in 1810 in Axminster, Devon.

Thing is, my George and Sarah had their first child in London in 1812.

I would stick with London Ben, the lists are full of people with the same names as we are researching, we could go down many cul de sacs with that one.

Hi Ann

There were loads of people moving to London from all over England throughout the whole of the 19th century, and I have searched many London PRs that arent on the IGI to no avail.

I wonder if they moved to London c1811 after they married? Sarah wasnt born in London according to 1841 and that is the only likely marriage that I can find on the IGI. If he was a coachman, he may have travelled a bit.

Any more ideas?

yes Ben that is true about the coachman bit. My relative that was a coachman was born and grew up in Froyle Hampshire and ended up in Highgate London.

It is a pity that your Sarah didn't make it to the 1851 as that would have given us a better idea where she was born.

As you know all marriages are not on the IGI. trouble is you can't assume that is them and you can't prove it isn't Unless there are any other links.

What are the chances that the James Bradford aged 49 living round the corner from Sarah in the 1841 census is NOT the James Bradford born in Effingham, Surrey in 1792? He died in 1846 and that GR member put his birthplace in her tree. How she got it I dont know just the age does fit.

If nhe is the one born in Effingham in 1792, I wonder if he was a friend or secret lover whom Sarah took the name of as if he was the one born in Effingham, then he is not a brother or cousin of Sarah.

I would think there is a pretty high chance that it is not the same one. What makes you think it should be the same one? Any other matches with him. james is a common name for the period and i would imagine that Bradford is quite common too.

In fact on ancestry there are at least 40 James Bradfords born between 1795 and 1805 in the 1841 in England

My Great Grandfather went off the grid in 1914 .

We know he was a POW but thats it. He wasnt on the list of the dead, but he never came home.

That's sad. was he posted missing do you know? I assume you have checked the War graves commission site?

ive checked every web site known to man ive seen his medals records but not his army records. he was a pow in franch but thats as for it goes. ny grand never remembered seeing his dad as he was born in 1908.

I am just curious as to how this gr member got his birthplace as he died before the 1851 census. Could she have been guessing or just taken the nearest likely baptism as true?

Access to archives where they have all sorts of military records. Put A2A into your search engine, google or whatever and see what comes up, you should get a searchable site.

She has the same childrens names, ages and birthplaces as the James living round the corner from Sarah in the 1841 census which was Henry, Frances and Amy.

But I do argue the alleged given birthplace of his if he died before 1851.

Dont know what i'm doing wrong went on A2A typed in his name and it said no data matched this name
