...... of depression descended over me yesterday afternoon and i am struggling to shake it off

I just sat staring at the TV trying not to cry.

Full of self loathing and feelings of worthlessness - i even had 'bad' thoughts which i've never done before, and only the thought of my cats left behind without me dispelled them.

Thought of a spot of 'comfort shopping' but even that didn't appeal - comfort food has done no better.

I've checked my diary - so i know what probably behind it - but why ? ? ?

It's so debilitating

Poor you McAnne, i felt the same a few weeks ago so i know how your'e feeling. It didn't shift for well over a week. A lot of very nice people on her helped me feel better tho'. I don't know what the answer is, sending you hugs anyway (((((((((hugs))))))))) xxxxx

i know it will pass but it takes so long

and i hate feeling like this but i can't make it go away except for when i'm asleep

Think of something you may be looking forward to.

However small it may be, imagine yourself doing that thing, be it a day out, or be it popping down the shops to buy something nice.

Replace those negative thoughts with positive ones., thats what helps me get through those times

I know how you feel, I get very like that at times.

Wish I could send you some of how I am feeling right now, which is great, for a change. Managed to meet up with a girl from school the other day and talked for hours.

You mentioned comfort shopping, well, get out of there and go to the shops, treat yourself, what do you fancy buying..nothing ?...than go take a look & you may find that something..the sales are on...you never know !

Visit your local pet store & buy something nice for your cats, a new collar, a toy maybe...imagine their pleasure when you give them their gift, their fun with their new toy, think of yourself laughing at their antics :o))

Have you tried going for a walk to try to clear your head? Or just going to bed to sleep for a few hours ???

I'm at work so i can't go anywhere just now .......

Elaine - i did try cos i thought i could buy something at lunchtime - not like me to not be able to comfort shop ..............

Do you like chocolate, i find that sometimes makes me feel a bit better, red wine too but it's a bit too early in the day for that. ( mmmmm is it ? )

Oh Anne - I know exactly how you are feeling, believe me. Been there, got the tee shirt - I tried the unthinkable but fortunately failed, but I got so low I felt I couldn't go on. My GP was terrific and with his help and the help of my family and friends, who had no idea how I was feeling, and the assistance of medication, I am fine, although I do get some down days now and again, but I just up the tablets. I look back on it 12 years later and wonder how I could have done it, but I did. Clinical depression I have, and my method of stopping the world and getting off was very clinical indeed. Seems to me you should go to your GP - hope he/she is understanding, say exactly how you feel, bsically what you have said on here. Donlt hang about, do it today!!! and I am always at the end of a phone if you wish to talk - I do understand, believe me

i think you're right tho - i need to get back to the doc - been off the AD's since begining of May, and tho i am taking a herbal supplement in place of, it's obviously not strong enough to deal with these times

Hi Anne, know how you are feeling, it has hit me like that in the past - wish I could help but am at the end of the phone if you want to talk sometime.

How's the new kitchen coming along? Did the dishwasher go in or hasn't it been done yet?

Have you got some Rescue Remedy handy? You could try using that every so often, and maybe if you are still taking the 5htp, they aren't enough? I am still on them but getting low myself, I know why tho - partly because of summer passing and the thought of shorter days again, this time of year always gets me like that.
