Do you think churchill was a caring prime minister and more sympathetic than todays. I haven't studied him so cannot comment.

to put such a question such as you have,,you should of done a bit of..research..!
however..in my opinion..yes..I think he was good for that time..much more realistic than todays PMs..
60 yrs have passed..times have changed..we live in a different society back then..

Do you mean good or caring? Big difference!
He did the right thing at the right time and was probably the greatest prime minister we had in recent times - Tony Wedgwood Benn is the only person who would have come close more recently. A proper socialist!

~~I can only go by history books..so my views are all circumstantial..He was good from what I can gather for instilling pride..honour, and victory in this country...If we had the likes of Tony Blair during that time..we wouldnt of stood a chance.
Charisma is what he had..and people follow that
That is my opinion..I was born in late 60s..so I can only go by history lessons!...and yes..I think he cared..for this country.and its people..ot like todays polititions.

*Ophelia.taking a break..* Report 22 Jun 2008 03:23

Well..Tony is a "Woose"...He would of been terrible to cope with the situations..Winston had to deal with.

On a quick google search..(to recap my memeory)..He was stratgegic...in endorsing the RAF..
He was Liberal minded..(great!)..however deflected a bit towards conservative..(not so great)..He had innovative ideas..and wasnt afraid to speak his mind..
plus he smoked cigars!...he has my vote!

*Ophelia.taking a break..* Report 22 Jun 2008 03:47

he had warped ideas about people their race colour and creed..He might as well been in charge of the Borg..( Star Trek..next generation)

He assimilated and wanted everyone to conform...He was power crazy....he was a great leader in the context...he brainwashed people..but it ends there...

He was a total psycho but he turned a dead economy around at a time when other European countries were failing to.

~~~so did Russia..with Lenin..and Stalin..in Russian revolution..with the 5 yr plan..but they didnt build concentration camps and kill millions..
Adolf got rid of people that were not blonde and blue eyed..(counts me out!)
They lost the war remember!
We here in Ol Blighty..grew our own vegetables..and had the home guard!...lol...There must be a lesson in there somewhere..
eRRolSheep
eRRolSheep Report 22 Jun 2008 03:58
I think that is a very simplistic way of looking at it.
Incidentally, Germany had their equivalent of the home guard too and they also grew their own vegetables.
And I don't know where you are getting your facts from but Lenin and Stalin were behind some of the greatest mass murders in history!
*Ophelia.taking a break..* Report 22 Jun 2008 04:03
ok.my history is rusty..I am aware many were killed in the Russian Revolution..through starvation..poverty and suchlike..
Lenin couldnt of been that bad if they immortalised him..(preserving him..for all to see)
They were communist...but did they build consentration camps? I do not recall so..
May be simplistic..but Im no historian!...
