This bar is officially closed. Any lights you can see are just mine host and a few mates having a friendly drink after hours.

No money changes hands - honest Constable. Have a bag of pork scratchings. That'll keep you quiet..

Catch you on Sunday, Amanda. Enjoy the boat.

Anne has asked me to do a bit of her family tree. She's very short on info, and given that her birth name was Anne Brown this should create a bit of a challenge!

Speak soon. Enjoy your weekend.

No sisters either Amanda. Just brothers.

But - I did have this lonnnnnng leather coat - the kind that goes down to nearly the ankles. My pride and joy; who knows how many weeks of paper rounds this took to buy.

"Borrowed" by number one brother. never to be seen again.

If he'd been a sister and indulged in the same trick with clothes, ear-rings etc who knows what type of revenge would have been required?

Rachel and her husband live right in the heart of Durham City - they were both students at the Uni there, and haven't left. I guess when Karl finally qualifies, they'll be off to London or - more likely I guess - America. Karl has a brother in New York who's also an accountant and reckons that he can place him there when he gets through his time qualification. He's already exam qualified.

And Rachel, being a historian and a Uni lecturer, has already had approaches from US unis - they love their British history lecturers over there, for obvious reasons.

So I guess I'd better enjoy them (and feed them) while they're here.

I've got to go as Rach wants a go on the machine.

I won't be about tomorrow night as we are supposed to be spending the night on the boat weather permitting..........more fishing no doubt.

Maybe catch up on Sunday.

We are growing "Marcot" broad beans this year , a Heritage variety that dates back to 1260s.Funning looking smallish seeds.........I wonder what they will taste like?

Amanda2003 Report 25 Apr 2008 21:56

No Grandchildren this weekend.........lol......I don't have them to sleep very often. They are with the other Nanny tonight I believe.

Meg and Rach have been at war with each other all week. They both pinch each others stuff ie earings , clothes , footwear etc etc.So there is a constant never ending battle going on between them.
As I have no Sisters I find it all rather bewildering.

Kids !!

I hope Sunday Lunch goes well.Does your Rach live near you ?

Sorry Amanda, last post crossed (again)

Know what you mean about fish. I don't eat much meat, but I do enjoy fish. But not if I've seen them on the end of a line. A case of "out of sight" I guess.

However, I DO love beans - especially the broad variety. Any spares would be very welcome up here.

Didn't realise that Rach had had words with the boyfriend. And wasn't bringing flowers to Chez Amanda a bit like bringing the proverbial coals to Newcastle?

How's Meg taking this lot? Sympathetic to the sister's "broken heart"? Or perhaps not?

Have you the grandchildren for the weekend?

I've got Rachel and Karl coming for lunch on Sunday. I've got her a pressie of a bottle of olive oil and some Spanish ham. Olive oil is only coppers to buy in Spain, and you know the price over here.

Anyway, what've you been up to? Have another glass of vino blanco. You must be dry by now.

You certainly know how to have a good time.It all sounds wonderful.

Glad that Annes leg didn't stop her enjoying herself.

Rach has indeed settled back at home.Still hasn't "made up " with the boyfriend.........he came round with a bunch of flowers earlier in the week. Not sure how it will pan out.

Yes, another bank holiday is looming , hopfully the co-op as doubled it's bread order.........lol

Must have taken me nine minutes to write this last post Amanda.

A glass of white coming your way. A nice one - Vina Sol: what better name for a wine than "wine of the sun"!

Enjoy.

Hi Amanda

Yes, it was very, very good, thanks.

Apartment was right in the middle of the old Gothic quarter, which I think you'd have loved. Loads and loads of geraniums dropping down from every very old balcony.

Shame we were up four floors with no lift and Anne with the broken ankle.........

Not to worry, she didn't let it get in the way one little bit. Ah, the pain-relieving qualities of a glass or two of vino!

The atmosphere on Wednesday was electric. Not only were Man Utd over to play Barca, but it was also St George's Day. Same St George as ours - all breast plate and dragon slaying - but St George is also the patron saint of Catalunya and they treat it like the Irish treat St Patrick's Day.

We did loads. A visit to the NouCamp on Tuesday, more Picasso on Wednesday, then a trip up to the top of Montjuce on the furnicular. I'm seriously worried about heights, but you have to give these things a go........... and the views were spectacular.

As usual, I had this awful sinking feeling when it came to coming home. One of these days, I'll bugger off and just turn up for Christmas Day and odd weekends.

How's things with you? Has Rachel found her feet back in the family yet?

Oh, and by the way, just realised we have another Bank Holiday coming up next Monday. Is there any local authority plan to put a diversion around the bread queue yet?
