Colin from Hampshire

Colin from Hampshire Report 15 Mar 2008 19:03

Hi Guys

For the past days I have been helping my mum and dad who recently moved into a disabled bungalow. The place was a right mess so I have been decorating it out for them.

These past couple of days I have seen such a decline in my dads health. Dad is a very proud man and wouldnt generally accept help unless he is feeling very poorly. He had a triple by pass about 17 years ago, this I feel is now giving up. Ive seen dad struggle so much these past few days his breathing is out, he looks pale and sullen, on the day of the move we are sure he suffered a minor stroke although says he is fine, his speech is exagerated and today although he never mention it I am 100 % sure he had a bad angina attack. Dad suddenly became breathless and very sweaty , he disappeared off into the bathroom for a few minutes and when he came out there was a distinct smell on his breath. It hit me a little later that this was in all probability the smell of the spray he has to put under his tounge.

As I say Dad is a very proud man, mums not to good and he puts on a brave face but at this time I dont think he is very well at all.

Im frightened at this time and could just do with a little support.

Thank You in advance.

Colin

Colin , love, your post has brought tears to my eyes.

You are a lovely man who has obviously inherited your Dads caring personality. I feel so very, very much for you. Watching our parents deteriorate is one of the hardest things we have to face.

Hugs to you always,

The strain of moving will have taken its toll on him..................if he's no better in a day or so it will be worth getting the GP to check him over.

It's a difficult time watching our parents age and lose their health. My thoughts are with you. Hopefully, the move has tired him out and he can now rest and get his strength back.

Sending lots of love. It brings it home to us that our parents won`t be here for ever. Not many people in our age group , 50`s , have 2 parents alive and I hope yours will be happy in their new home for a few years to come.

Awww Colin - it's tough to realise that your folks aren't invincible isn't it :O(

They did so much for us as we grew up and yet we can do so little for them as their years catch up with them.

(((((Hugs)))))) for you and your folks x

Colin, get him to GP sounds as though he may need a pace-maker. OH had five by-pass grafts 1988 and was fine until two years ago whe he had symtons similar to your Dad our GP referred him to hospital they found his heart was beating too slowly and fitted pace-maker he is 75 and still gets tired but is also a very proud man and won't let anyone do anything for him especially decorating so we just keep emulsioning but he insists on doing everything and uses pads, says they are just like dusting!!GP also found her had Stage two diabetes which does make the breath smell very sweet, the small for heart spray usually smells of aniseed.

Thinking of you Colin.......you've done your best to help your "oldies"with the move.......it must have been a lot of stress for them both.
Hope your dear Dad is feeling better tomorrow.

Aww Colin,

Bless your heart. Perhaps getting the Gp to call may be a good idea.

Perhaps it is the strain of the move or even the paint.

I do so hope things get better soon.

((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))

God Bless
