Apparently it takes too long Steve if you dry more than 1 thing at a time. What would they do if there wasn't any dryers. Mind you, when our broke she took her wet washing to launderette to dry it. Bet she put it all in together then because it would have cost too much!

Teenagers today have no idea do they. My eldest will put tumble dryer on for a certain pair of knickers and matching bra. She has loads anyway. But she never thinks to put anyone elses stuff in.

I think carpets are changed more often now because they're not as good quality...I know my bedroom carpet is 9 years old now and in a very sorry state.

Ah and I remember when patches on jeans were the fashion statement lol. No it's the recurring phase of letting the rips hang free...and be damned to anything that can be seen through them (I'm still turmatised [sic])

Teddy's 48 years? Good grief!

Teddys Girl Report 8 Mar 2008 17:01

Yes it is a throw away society.

My stair carpet was a good one A1 Axminster, it is now 48 years old, and has been in two houses(lucky same size stairs).

It was fitted with stair rods, so occasionally it is shifted up or down.and shampood once a year. Therefore kept from wearing out .

I dont like throwing things away when there is a lot more wear in them.

I think they have in a way, yes i aggree that were all encouraged to recycle

but we were brought up in a re use culture if it could be re used it was old woolen coats cut up to make clippy mats ect

old jeans used to patch holes in other jeans

today everthing is consumer driven, could you would never see a teen with a patch on a pair of jeans unless everyone else is wearing em lol

~Summer Scribe~

~Summer Scribe~ Report 8 Mar 2008 15:40

Surely they haven't changed that much, Steve, I'd have thought we're encouraged to recycle and all that so much more these days that she'd have been the one jumping on you if you *hadn't* sewn the button on. LOL.

Nor can I as she actualy knows the value of money

but i think its just how times have changed since we were young

~Summer Scribe~ Report 8 Mar 2008 15:33

LOL I was thinking exactly the same as Blue Moon said.

I can only imagine the response a comment like hers would have got me from my parents. But then I would never have even thought it, I would already have been sat their sewing the button on. Money was tight for us and as a result I have great money management abilities...even better than my parents lol.

When she needs new ones she won't mind buying her own since they don't cost much! LOL

I cannot believe she wanted to throw away a shirt because a button had come off.
