can ya tell im bored. . lol .. got no more 'Salop' names ... unless i start going lateral.

**********************************************

High the vanes of Shrewsbury gleam
Islanded in Severn stream;
The bridges from the steepled crest
Cross the water east and west.

The flag of morn in conqueror’s state
Enters at the English gate:
The vanquished eve, as night prevails,
Bleeds upon the road to Wales.

Ages since the vanquished bled
Round my mother’s marriage-bed;
There the ravens feasted far
About the open house of war:

When Severn down to Buildwas ran
Coloured with the death of man,
Couched upon her brother’s grave
The Saxon got me on the slave.

The sound of fight is silent long
That began the ancient wrong;
Long the voice of tears is still
That wept of old the endless ill.

In my heart it has not died,
The war that sleeps on Severn side;
They cease not fighting, east and west,
On the marches of my breast.

Here the truceless armies yet
Trample, rolled in blood and sweat,
They kill and kill and never die;
And I think that each is I.

None will part us, none undo
The knot that makes one flesh of two,
Sick with hatred, sick with pain,
Strangling—When shall we be slain?

When shall I be dead and rid
Of the wrong my father did?
How long, how long, till spade and hearse
Put to sleep my mother’s curse?

Ok, got a few more names of people who married into the family but none the less are from 'Salop'

Glover
Burgess
Corbet
Whittingham
Lewis
Davis ...

I think that has just about exhausted my 'Salopian' Kin now.

I dont think they will ever get to the point where 'Salop' is not used, Will they?

They can change as many road signs as they like but it wont make any difference to the people who effectionately call it 'Salop'.

Though it is amazing how many people from afar have never heard of it when asked where do you live!

;-)

Talking of 'Salop'...I believe the comedy series 'Green Green Grass' was filmed in the village of Leintwardine where my Gran lives..Alot of scenes were in the Red Lion Hotel where my Uncle was a Chef... The guy who stars in it (Boycie from only fools) also lives in the village as does Jo Brand.

:o)xx

honestly though .. i thought he lived in Ludlow, Ole Boycie.. maybe he emigrated to Leintwardine lol

Julie

Julie Report 7 Mar 2008 18:36

I was under the impression Andy that he lived in 'the big house' that featured in the series. Tho Ludlow is also close to my heart as I grew up on a farm there when visiting my Gran who lived there at the time n also my mum was born near by n went to school there....along time ago of course.

Good to see you again by the way :o)xx

If we keep going we shall see how they all fitted
in and why it was said all families were related.
Add others your family married into who are
not in your direct line--grt/uncles /aunts etc
then you will begin to see a pattern
example--------------
Perry----Dobs------------Mabs----------different lloyds
price--------jones's--------talbots---bullocks-----
jenkins-------- to begin
