Hmmm just like my husband Alan on Saturday and Sunday afternoons....he says thank goodness for family history lol.

I have had sisters or brothers living with siblings and their families I suppose that is how families were in those days.

I cannot find Sarah on the 1871 census or a possible death for her.

Strange as I cannot find any Coxon family in the 1841 census in Stockport perhaps some pieces are missing! I have found Coxon births in Heaton Norris before 1841 but not on the census.... on

http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/

It would be worth emailing Stockport and asking for a baptism lookup for Martha and Sarah...or any other question you have....they usually are very helpful.

Good luck

Linda

Parts of Stockport, in the census, including Heaton Norris came under Lancashire..even though it is virtually in the centre of Stockport...it lies on the opposite side of the River Mersey!!!!!

A good source of information is the Stockport Heritage Library....they are very helpful and if they are not busy are only to willing to do look ups.

Hi Allan,

There are 2 Cheadles...one in Staffordshire and one which was, until recent boundary changes, in Cheshire. It will be the Cheadle in Cheshire that you are looking for.

I would imagine that that Joseph and Martha married at the local parish church of St Mary's. If you google you will find the church.

Many of our Stockport ancestors married in Cheadle at St Mary's...I think it may have depended which area of Stockport they were living at the time. Cheadle is virtually down the road from the road from Stockport and part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport now....part of Greater Manchester. Cheadle was my home village.

I hope this helps.

thankyou both...i have to say, that i`m a little green in situations like this, and would value both your opinions....martha and her sister were born in stockport in 1805 and 1808...marthas husband ,joseph allcock was born in stockport..THEIR children were born in stockport...why would martha and joseph marry in CHEADLE...i can only presume the family moved to cheadle....am i wrong to presume this?...if i`m right, then this family in cheadle(the ONLYcoxons in cheadle in 1841.) has to be marthas family....regards..allan...just added..do these children look too young to be james and sarah`s children...more like grandchildren...sarah would have to be 51 at youngest`s birth??...allan
