This might be the marriage of William and Jane

WILLIAM SWIFT
Marriages:
Spouse: JANE GITTUS Family
Marriage: 03 JUL 1839 Saint Martin, Birmingham, Warwick, England

I can't see a baptism for Jane but there are other children called Gittus being baptised in that same church some 20 years before Jane married and they are the children of a James and Elizabeth Gittus. If it were my tree I'd pencil them in my notes as possible siblings or cousins.

So Wendy that gives you some new leads to check and think about and some new surnames to research.

I wondered about her Gail.

She does seem very early as you say. There ought to be more children if so.

Yes she does fit in nicely with the census details though, right age and place of birth.....along with hundreds of others probably...

As I cannot see a Harry Louis Swift birth registration, the nearest one I can find is this one..

I quite fancy this earlier William (in IGI batch P020912) as the father of the William who married Jane. That gives us three generations of William Swifts and takes us back to Wendy's 3x great grandparents.

WILLM. SWIFT
Birth: 26 JAN 1811

Christening: 26 JAN 1812 Bromsgrove, Worcester, England
Parents:
Father: WILL SWIFT
Mother: SARAH

LOL

Well it makes a change from chasing some of my own elusive ancestors.

Now if anyone wants a real brick wall how about my Thomas Bottomley/Bothamley living in Lincolnshire in 1841 of approximate age but born out of county about 1778 and dead before 1851 so I have no idea where to look!

Best wishes

ooh Gail

Look again at 1891 at who was the housekeeper!
ALBUT, Emma Housekeeper Single F 38 Housekeeper
Birmingham

Looks like a relation of Harry's dead mother was brought in to look after the kids.

There were Albutts in Bromsgrove as early as the 1600s.

Nice little project sorting them out Wendy. Looks a promising tree.

Good luck

Oh Yes, I thought I had seen the name Albutt before - and don't forget I live in Lincolnshire so if you want me to nip to the record office and look for a burial (I know that won't tell you anything really, but you never know the vicar might have written 'comes from Whitstable' - I live in hope)..seriously though Sue if you want me to look for anything it is no problem..

Thank you for that offer Gail. I'll remember that!

Well Wendy ...........are you there? We've managed to find you several generations back and some new branches for you to go off and explore.

Basically it means your tree goes like this so far:-

Generation 1 Harry Louis Swift (born 1879 Birmingham) married Florence Wingrove in 1906. He may have added the Louis later because he fancied it……people sometimes did that!

Generation 2 William Swift (b. 1844 Bromsgrove) married Ann b.1846 Bromsgrove d. 1888, probably nee Albutt and daughter of Thomas and Maria Albutt) Probable marriage to Ann Albutt in 1864 Bromsgrove. There is a possibility that there were two marriages both to an Ann as there is a William Swift/Ann Grainger marriage in Aston in 1872, but I cannot find a certain death of an Ann Swift to account for a first wife dying. I’d be tempted if I were you, and had spare cash, to buy the Ann Grainger marriage certificate in case William was a widower but only if I had enough to risk wasting £7.

Generation 3 William Swift (b. approx. 1811 Bromsgrove) married Jane b. approx 1812 (probably nee Gillus) Probable marriage in 1839 St Martin, Birmingham

Generation 4 William Swift married Sarah

Over to you and good luck.

Sue
