Sorry I've only just noticed this post! Thanks Karen, I've also had the same conclusion from Danielle and want to Thank both of you for looking into this for me. It sounds very much like you've both hit the nail on the head but I'm still slightly confused as to where the Taylor comes from? I'm also still confused as to which Thomas was Matilda's father? Thomas Beasley (Jonathan & Elizabeths brother) or Thomas Elliot (Betsy's widow) Either way Rebecca would have been his Niece!!! But I need to know which is the right family to trace back further.
Thanking you again for your wonderful help, it's truely appreciated. Kim

Hi there I think I may have found the connection between Betsey Elliott (nee Beasley) and Rebecca. On the 1871 Stewkley census, Rebecca Beasley is listed with her family, her father being Jonathan Beasley, age 47 (I think - the age has got a line through it), a widow, born in Stewkley Bucks. Rebecca has a brother, George, and two sisters, Betsy (18) and Ann (20). I found Jonathan Beasley (rebecca's father) on the 1841 census, with his parents and siblings, one of which was Elizabeth Beasley age 5 (but they did round the age up on the 1841 census), so this could have been the Betsy Beasley who married Thomas Elliott. Not sure why rebecca would have been shown as 'sister in law' on the census though? Just to confuse matters even more, Jonathan and Elizabeth Beasley are the brother and sister to Thomas Beasley (b. 1835 Stewkley, hawker), mentioned at the beginning of the post. Hope this may help... Karen

Tee hee thanks Reggie
The Betsey and Thomas Elliott mentioned are the same couple who married in 1854 in Buckinghamshire. Betsy's maiden name is Beasley but I cannot find any connection to Rebecca......

I've thought about this while having lunch.........and realised I'd had a complete 'rush of blood', with regard to Betsey's age.
Put it down to hunger.........or simple stupidity!

Clutching at straws, perhaps? Reg

Do you think this could be the same Minnie?
What do you mean "1881.....Betsey's age tallies with the girl in 1861/1871" ?

Thanks for looking Reggie. I suspect that Sarah Rebecca Beasley born Stewkley is her. Not sure where the Taylor came from but I suppose she could have made it up for Matilda's bc..... I found a death registered for Ann Beasley. Minnie Beasley I'm not sure where she was on the 1881 but there is a Minnie Bealy aged 5 boarding with a Thomas & Betsy Elliot (just to confuse things!)

The Thomas & Mary Beasley is a different family (I think!) They are shown on all census upto 1901 so surely that cant be the same guy ?
Can anyone find a Rebecca Taylor born that time in that area?

You also need to bear in mind that in those days "sister-in-law" could also mean "step-sister".

All are possibilities I shall look into - Thank you.
I haven't searched for Thomas Elliotts death, thanks for that.
The Minnie Beasley that is mentioned later married a man called Epps I believe, I spoke to one of her descendants and she seems to think that Rebecca Beasley was her mother.... only one way to find that out I guess.

Surely Betsy Beasley would have been Thomas Beasley's sister and not Rebecca's sister. This would still make Rebecca the sister in law of Thomas Elliott.

Have you looked for a death of Thomas Elliott?
Perhaps the house they were in actually belonged to Thomas Elliott and when he died Thomas and Rebecca Beasley moved in (which is why the same address comes up on both census).
I am only trying to give ideas fo you to think about, as there is a Thomas Beasley on the 1891 census from the right birthplace and born the right time.
