Hi Andy
thank's for your reply, yes it is possible, but I would have find something to use as a checking point, as his wife is deceased by that time I might have the same problem as I have now, but I will take a look at them. Thank's Gill

Is it possible that William is missing from the 1861 census and is one of the William Procters who dies in 1864?

Gwyn there is a small connection between William Dean age 15 and William Proctor. William Deans father William Dean was also born in Audley.

It doesn't add up, ..does it?

The William Dean presence makes me think that the death is for the Willam the potter who married Ann DEAN.

but your ancestors seem to link to the blacksmith marriage....and indeed why would a blacksmith ( 1851) suddenly die as a potter the following year.

Sorry I can't think straight now...I will mull over this though.

Could you check burial records to see who was buried with the 1852 death William?
Maybe that will identify whether it was your ancestors wife.

I have searched BMD from June qrt 1851 to March qrt 1861 for a William Proctor(er) and only found the one in 1852 and it's the right place, but why weren't one of his children presant at death??? He's a Blacksmith on 1841 and 1851 and yet a year later when he dies he's a Potter. If he had contracted asthma as a Blacksmith he would not have become a Potter iam sure, but then who knows there were know health & safty rules then !!!

Even more muddled now!

The William and Sarah whose details in 1851 are above...are still alive in 1861 so the death cert. can't be him.

So we have 2 William Proctors b. Audley in 1851 census
1 is a blacksmith and the other is a potter.

Could you have got the death cert. of the 'other' William and not your ancestor?

What years were those marriages?
Did William SIGN as a witness?

A potter would be a skilled man, one would think, - natural talent playing a part...
I'm wondering how soon after the marriages we might look for them in a census.

Oh...just seen marriage dates !

Gwyn in Kent Report 30 Aug 2007 13:33

Which Ann is your ancestor?

Have you a birth cert.after 1837 for a known sibling of your ancestor, ..child of William?

Have you looked for baptism records of the 2 Anns to identify a place of birth,...then follow them both in census.
