My grandfather has the middle names 'Samuel French'. My mother has traced three tree back a long way and the name 'French' never comes up. Mum asked him in conversation one day ( he is still alive and a young 94!!!) how the name came about, he said a brother just named him...We worked out that he was conceived on Bastille Day !!!! One of the favourite name differences in my tree is my uncle. When we were kids we all called him Uncle Jack and he was referrred to as such when our parents talked to us about him. However - the grown-ups always called him John! It wasnt till I was researching the family history that I found out he was actually named Edwin! |
