Janet Thank you so much for the offer of your help. I have found it well it was william williams that kindly found it for me. This message was posted quite a while back. Thank you everyone for your support. My youngest starts school in September so hopefully I will be able to go out and do my own searching. mind you my fella will probably send me out to work to pay for all the certificates. Debbie

I go to the Family Record Centre quite often and would gladly look for the cert that you need. Let me know the details. I understand what James is saying and, to be honest, I prefer to do the leg work. Nothing like finding a tombstone of your 3 g Grandparents in the churchyard, as I did recently, as opposed to on the internet. No contest. However I realise that with kids it's not so easy. I do this for quite a few people now who are living abroad and love it even if it is for other families!!!

Debbie, You have come a long way from your original message. One thing we will all have learnt from all the subsequent messages is that we, although all sharing the same interest, are all very different with different circumstances, young, old, male, female, even different countries. But we are all a friendly bunch, most willing to help because, in return we know we can ask for help too. and don't we just love a chat???? Keep plugging away and hopefully your searching will bear fruit. You are lucky starting young, I am retired and all the older members of my family are no longer with us. Luckily I did start before my parents died so was able to get the basics from them. That is a tip, don't neglect the older members in your family it is amazing what they can drag out of their memories. I only wish we had done the same with my husband's family, he didn't even know his Grandfather's name and we still don't know where his Mother was born. Anyway, happy hunting, and enjoy it!! Ann

There is no need to be offensive to people, after all if you dont like the request, you dont have to answer, you can move on to a request you do like! June, Preston.Lan.

Thanks Brian for giving a plug to us overseas members of GC. The only reason that I have many any progress with my tree is due to the generosity of UK members who have given freely of their time (and possibly credits) to assist me. Terry - Gibraltar

Alison Thanks for that. I thought that message was lost a long time ago. Since then I have that actual marriage certificate. It was so exciting. William Williams found it for me. He kindly asked for all the details and when he made his visit to the gro in Liverpool he found it for me. I just could not believe there are so many nice people around. So thankyou very much William(I have thanked him before this) And thankyou everyone else for their help in searching. The only problem now i`m stuck on the fathers names. Oh well I will get there in the end. Debbie

As someone who also lives far away from the area researching, and having two children and working full time, i too find it difficult to access records and am grateful to those contacts i have made from a variety of sites who have helped me along the way. Help comes in many different forms and the internet is a fantastic way to meet people with the same interests - even if they are researching different names in different counties. Although i freely admit that i have asked for help i would not expect anyone to put their own research at risk or be out of pocket in any way on my account. Similarly i would be only too willing (in the little spare time i have) to look in my local area (hastings) for anyone requiring help even though my local area does not help me in any way! So Debbie, good luck to you and don't be afraid to ask you will find people only too willing to offer help and advice where they can. alison

Beryl I think that was a very nice sermon. It can be great fun especially when you find something new it`s just so exciting. I wonder if our Ancestors ever had some fun, most of them had so many children can you imagine it now. I wouldn`t be sat here with that many kids. Thanks for the reply happy searching and have lots of fun. Debbie

Debbie, I think it is wonderful so many younger people are becoming hooked on this mad hobby we call Family History especially when they have to cope with the demands of young children. I think the fact that so much more is becoming available online is helping to promote its popularity. Everyone has to begin somewhere and if you are making progress then well done - keep going. I think differences of opinion on the ways available to do research are going to be inevitable but it's what suits your lifestyle at the present time that matters. I was introduced to this site by a young friend and I love it - I infected her with the terminal disease of genealogy in the first place. She has done all her research from home - I on the other hand have spent hours going through parish registers etc.etc. We're all on the same journey just travelling in different ways. The only rule is it should be FUN! Here endeth the sermon for the day! Regards, Beryl.

Helen Thank you so much for your reply. Im glad other people understand that with kids it`s very hard even though we are really serious about our trees. I have found most of the info from the net without it I wouldn`t have got far. Yesterday I was so upset but today I feel great and it`s all thanks to the wonderful people out there including you Helen and all the people that have given me words of encouragement and offers of help. thankyou all so very much. Debra I get a little fed up with some people who seem to think they can tell us there is a right and a wrong way to do our family trees. I have a young family, work part time and have limited time and resources to be dashing off all over the country or for ordering certificates etc. Debra, it's YOUR tree and if YOU are happy to research through the net (just as I am)then that is all that matters. Don't allow a few others to upset you, most people are happy to help and if they're not they should just keep quiet.

To those who say that you should not expect to find everything on-line I ask "Why not?" Official bodies in charge of what, after all, is a part of the nation's heritage seem content almost to rely on the technology of the day the record was created. OK, some records are on microfiche or film, but in the 21st Century we should be aiming higher than a fuzzy image of something written with a quill pen. The impetus for online access is coming from voluntary bodies of amateurs with the government trailing thirty years behind, when it spins that it wants Britain to be in the forefront of internet technology. What is the point of them plugging broadband when they can't be bothered to put stuff on there to access. The same applies to all our laws, the stationery office is happy to sell you a copy of an Act, but if the population is expected to comply with every law, why isn't it all available online. And, yes, I am willing to do the legwork, but I have just been down to Hythe in Kent to locate the church where my great grandfather was christened to find that the records from there have been forwarded to Canterbury cathedral, which I will have to arrange to visit on another holiday. Fortunately Kent is the next county, but for someone in the North of England or overseas it might be an impossible task. Here endeth the rant.

Hello Debbie and Kim I had a quick look last night, whilst checking some of my own ancestors. It's definately NOT 1855 or the March and June quarters of 1856. Hope that helps. Suzanne Paris Orpington Kent
