All this talk of Government proposals to curb information on bmd certificates has got me in a right state. I recently started looking in to my family tree in April and have found it difficult enough accessing data and attempting to emulate Sherlock Holmes ! It's costing me a small fortune as it is. Does this mean if I want to trace my family up to present day I need to speed things up, effectively purchase all the relatives certificates before next year ? "MY GOD"

WRITE TO YOUR MP. If you're reading this you've got internet access so go to "fax your MP" and use that.

Has everyone read the proposals? It does say that : However some of the information (addresses, occupation and cause of death) will be available only to the individual and their families plus those who are given access by the individual/family and those agencies having legal prescribed access. So if I want to apply for the birth certificate of my aunt thrice removed then I will shes still family, im getting on my high horse now, flaming government. I will ask the question.

I hadn't seen it before but when I went to order some bmd cert's online, there is a section about the Civil Registration Review. It sounds innocuous, put the way they do! But then they would say that......................you can also download a response form but it's pages long!

Surely, if the person who's info you are seeking is dead, it can't matter? They aren't likely to be harmed by a person knowing what they died of and where they lived prior to moving to the cemetery..... or are they? Pam

Bloody hell! Who's bright idea was this in the first place? Was it an MP? Was it a Civil servant? Was it an unelected nanny sort that had nothing else to do but think up mischeivuos unecesssary restrictions to foil family researchers? Or is there something more sinister afoot here? I really can't figure the justification for this restriction. Is this another of those badly thought out exercises in this case to take away our freedom of information to be replaced by an ivory tower wallah who shall decide what we should or shouldn't know for our own good? Would the instigator of this proposal like to try and persuade me that it's a good idea please? Anybody know who it was? Can I find out who first tabled it or is that already restrictive information? Kathy

Hi there, have been to the site and downloaded Annex ! Response Form but aren't quite sure what to do. (Sorry!!) It says tick this box if u are requesting non-sidclosure of your response ?? What does that mean? Do I have the right form? I would like to object to it all and make my feelings known but am not sure if I've got the right form!
