Tony, Thanks for clearing that one up. If you find a reference to Elizabeth Elliff with father John i am trying to find who her mother was........ John and Sarah(nee Adams) also had a daughter Ann around 1844........ I too thought that William ,Job, John etc might be cousins, til it was pointed out to me that it is highly unlikely that there would be 2 brothers called John alive at the same time and raising a family. Only leaves the possibility that the two elder Johns were cousins.........and that their children grew up together, so much so that William and his family lived with John and his family at 2 different address' over the years, helped by the fact their wives were sisters. And to think i thought my immediate family were a handful!!! Regards Yvette |

When I was visiting Alston,CUL over the summer. I visited a Historical Archives within the townhall and they had some baptism records which unusually were recorded like: Thomas Williams, 1st son of Charles & Mary (dau of Alfred Harrington). I was astounded when I saw them as I had never seen that type before, they solved a few little queries for me. All I'm saying is some parish records do give the maiden name but it is rare. George |

Yvette, You could try Woodside, St Luke as thats where William and Alice's children were christened, might be worth a try. I'm still searching for your William and Elizabeth!! Tracey |

Thanks for that Tracey. John and Emma had 4 children that i know of, John, Edith, Brtha and Arthur, also known as George. I think Edith must have died young as there is no reference to her after the 1881 census. Also the fact that John and Emma lived with William and Alice for over 10 years and they had a daughter Edith in 1894. (I wouldnt have though they would have had 2 Ediths in the same house at the same time) William and Alice had 7 children in all, Annie, Alfred, Frederick, Arthur,Frank-also known as Ernest, Edith and Thomas. Just a small note, by the 1901 they also had a granddaughter Margaret living with them, no idea which of the children were the natural parent though. Family lore has it that Annie never had any children, nor did she marry, so it could only have been Alfred or Frederick at a guess as the others were all too young at the time. I hope to clear that one up at some point. What a family eh! Best wishes Yvette |

Tracey, Did you find anything on you VRI for the births of the Streeter girls? Just wondered as i have been looking into them all day with little luck. I have found, along with some help, entries on freebmd for Emma and Eliza, but as the only one i am 100% sure of blood ties with is Alice i am trying to sort her first, just in case she isnt sister to the other Streeter girls........advice from fellow member of GC. Sorry if i am being a pest, Regards Yvette |

Hi Yvette, Your not being a pest at all, thats what we're all here for to help each other! I'm sorry though i've not found any births for the Streeter girls. The births seem to jump from 1831 to 1860 and i think all the girls fall in between these dates. I will keep a look out though! Have you tried 1837 online yet? Or maybe nip to the library and look through St Catherines index, you know rough dates for them all (and its cheaper). Don't give up, we'll get you there in the end!! Tracey |

Tracey Been to the Library today and searched St Catherines Index.........Oh boy what fun i had. The good news I found Alice Streeter, June quarter 1855 Vol 2a P138, guess thats a certificate to order now, lol. The bad news, I couldnt find Eliza Streeter when i had a look to try and confirm the details i had already been given for her. Despite lots of very careful looking she isnt anywhere on the Dec 1852 or anything either side. What do i do about that? The not so sure news, or should that be, this could get expensive news..... I found 3 new possibles for my William Elliff. All for 1852, unfortunately 1 was totally illegible for the district, 1 looks like being in Spilsby, again wrong district unless he is no relation to John and Edward Elliff, and the other one had an very hard to read page number. I am still having trouble getting into FreeBMD today so will have to wait til later to try and find out more on these. Regards Yvette |

Hi Yvette, Well done! At least you've got one result. I've had a look on BMD and i can only see one William Elliff in Croydon around the right time. He was born Sept Qtr 1852, Croydon, 2A 125. Did you look a couple of years either side for Eliza? Sometimes the dates on LDS can be a few years out. Don't worry she'll turn up somewhere!! Tracey There is an Eliza Streeter on BMD Dec Qtr 1852, born Croydon vol 2a but the page number was illegible (there was just an asterisk) Tracey |
