Hi Vicky, If you haven't done so already then go to the Links section on this site and you can add those to your Favourites list. I would certainly add these to your Favourites list: http://www(.)stepping-stones(.)co(.)uk http://www(.)archivecdbooks(.)org http://www(.)old-maps(.)co(.)uk http://www(.)yourmapsonline(.)org(.)uk http://www(.)streetmap(.)co(.)uk http://www(.)ukbdm(.)co(.)uk http://www(.)documentsonline(.)pro(.)gov(.)uk http://www(.)genealogysupplies(.)com http://www(.)exresidents(.)co(.)uk http://www(.)ancestral-villages(.)co(.)uk http://www(.)ukbmd(.)org(.)uk http://www(.)rmhh(.)co(.)uk I'm sure others will think of lots more Andy

Oh Vicky, what a nightmare. An important lesson for us all: always back up your files. I keep meaning to do mine BUT still haven't done them yet!! Just a few I copied and pasted earlier - hope they will prove useful. http://www.north-easterner.freeserve.co.uk/links.htm http://hospitalrecords(.)pro(.)gov(.)uk/ http://www.angelfire http://www(.)genhomepage.com/commercial.html#comersoft http://www(.)cityoflondon(.)gov(.)uk/family-research www.curiousfox.com www.gendocs.demon www(.)lightage(.)demon(.)co(.)uk www(.)nationalarchivist(.)com www.photo-ark.co.uk http://www.county-surnames(.)co(.)uk/index2(.)mv Good luck Kathy Epsom, SRY

If anybody has any other useful links that they want to share then let's try and keep this thread going. I always welcome an interesting new link but it's easy to miss one if you're away for a couple of days, so let's put as many as we can in this particular thread. Over to you! Andy.

Hi Vicky, this happened to me where I work. I.T migrated our computers and they lost all of my favourites to do with my job. I did find them! I went to 'Start' then 'Find' and onto 'files or folders' I messed around typing in favourites etc and eventually I find it! This might work for you, I'm not 100% sure, but it is worth a try! goodluck!

Maybe i am being a bit thick here but how do you save your favourites to a floppy. Regards George

Lynne

Lynne Report 2 Oct 2003 20:48

George I think Ann meant the sites listed on here, she probably pasted them into a WP document and saved that. Correct me if I'm wrong Ann.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Oct 2003 20:50

That's right, I pasted all the ones that were on this thread onto a word document, as a back up to my favourites. ann Glos

Hi all, You can save the actual links from your favourites without copying them all into a WP document. From Windows Explorer select the 'Windows' directory. From there you'll find a 'Favourites' directory and then you can just drag and drop the files onto a floppy disk. Windows 2000 and XP are slightly different, as the files are stored under c:\documents and settings\(username)\favourites. The username being whatever your PC is setup as. Hope this helps? If not, e-mail me and I'll try and sort it out. Tracy
