I've just found this: Joseph Baker Death December Qtr 1859, Greenwich 1d 409. Could it be a London dock? or just someone of that name who lived in Greenwich? Also: Charles Baker Birth March Qtr 1860, Greenwich 1d 571. Again, might just be a local Baker family. Jan.

looked at Bakers' for 1901 not Moon's, probably because i could not find them, so still back to who did James 1827 Moon marry, Elizabeth Tindall or Charlotte ? or combination names.....i would really like to order this certificate so i can trace down if William 1855 has siblings! so back to 1871 back census and back from there if i could find my James, where exactly do you look for them in Hastings?, so i may find out how to go back now that a received my package today for joining!

Charlotte was on 1891 census like you said as widow (so no James) and i did find Charlotte on 1901 census in hastings, age 69, born Somerset Bath, st mary magdalen parish living on own means (so James passed on between 1881 and 1891) but i could not find his death on bmd

I will go to the Hastings library reference department, and see if they have the census returns on microfiche. I will also have a look at the trades reference books, such as Kellys, which should list the name of the shopkeepers etc. I'll try and find out who ran the shop in Southwater Terrace, and also have a look at the one in Marina. I've never done it before, so will tell you more on my return. It will probably be Monday or Tuesday. Jan.
