There is a decoder but I've not used it, clever people here will tell you how! When I have a list of people of same surname in same location, right click on their name and a small drop down box will show, left click on ' properties ' and a number will show at the bottom of the larger box , which appears now. Note the number and look for possible groups. Different enumerators recorded in their own way and this may help to separate the names into families. eg some may have census place recorded as, - Sussex, Worthing, others -Worthing, W.Sussex, others, - West Sussex, Worthing etc. By noting these different ways you can sometimes narrow the search.

Vouchers can be bought and kept by until you need them. When you start to use one you have 6 months from that first useage date.. -Good if you are only find out info. at a slow pace.

I have a feeling Ned could be Edward Roderick Olliver, everyone else in the family had a middle name and were born aournd the sametime, do you think i could be right?

Have a look at the 1901 census online. Do a person search but you get best results with minimum information. You can find people's I.D. numbers and consecutive numbers indicate they are together, or next door. Look at ages or places of birth to give you a fair guess at families. This is free but you would need to pay to see the actual household index, online but free in a library, as suggested before.If you don't know the address, it could take ages,- you have to weigh the online cost against the time spent. Vouchers available in libraries are the cheapest way of paying to search 1901 online.

How did you find out he was with an Emily, where can i see that?

A Harry in 1901 seems to be with an Emily.- Does this ring a bell? Were they married in church and you could check parish records to see who his father was, as shown on his marriage entry in the register.These would only be available in the Worthing/Sussex area libraries or record offices, or else in London. Always work back from what you know. Neds in our family were Edward.

All census' should list everyone present in the house at the time the census was taken. so provided they hadn't gone off to see relatives all brothers and sisters born at the time should be there Jeanette

Cheers April will try David. Is there away i can get around buying a birth certificate, if i went to the library and loked at the census it wuoldnt tell me anything would it?

If you buy Harrys (jnr) birth cert it will tell you where and when he was born, his fathers name and occupation and also his mothers maiden name. All very useful for going back further Jeanette

not sure, ive been racking my brains (not much there anyway!) but cant think it seems weird they are all there but him, also to find out about the dad (harry snr) and their mum will i have to buy their birth certificates?

Just from that freebmd site i have found out the birth year of Arthur, Harry Jnr and Edith, but cant find Ned, do you think it could be spelt different in those days. I find it bizarre that they didnt ask questions, i couldnt imagine that!
