My GGG Grandfather John Heslop was Coachman to the Duke of Hamilton. And my GGG Grandfather John Baker was a confectioner. He had a sweet shop in the middle of Darlington, which is now a Pizza Hut. And in my tree I have a Frederick Baker who was a baker. The rest were coal miners from Gateshead. Master Mariners, Engineers, Whitesmiths and Iron Founders from Whitby. Carpet Weavers from Barnard Castle. And lots of teachers, joiners and soldiers. |

Well I have a lot of shoemakers (seems to have been the family trade!), cabinet makers, a miner, a servant, a maker of gold and silver pencil boxes, a lot of labourers, a fly-driver, a groom, a carpenter, a few tailors, watch finishers, a hotel manager, a vinegar brewer and a bonnet wire shape maker to name but a few! |
