Karen - no you don't need if a scanner if you've already got digital images on your PC. Of course, if you haven't, then you do! Gill - sorry to hear your tales of woe! I think you've just been unlucky for some reason. I've always been able to upload my tree in minutes and haven't come across any of the errors that you mentioned - although, no, TribalPages doesn't take account of Christening dates. Which software are you using for your master tree? I'm not sure why it would be incompatible if it can usually upload/download a GEDCOM file... but it seems that there is something rather odd.

Hmmm. . . website has finally appeared over 24 hours after I uploaded it. Lots of errors in upload - 20+ (out of 180) individuals had been changed from dead to living; site doesn't recognise christening dates; dates of birth/death entered as being "about", "before" or "after" a certain year have just been converted to a definite date; places of birth etc and notes had disappeared. Looks quite nice, but gencircles was quicker to upload (a matter of minutes) and all the gedcom data was accurately transcribed. Gill

It is very easy Karen. This is an absolutely brilliant site and I would recommend it to anyone due to its simplicity, the look, the security features, the speed etc etc

Isn't it fantastic! I could play around on it for ages. And it's really easy to use. Jeanette

Have just wasted about an hour trying to upload my gedcom file onto this site. . . either it says it is "connecting to TribalPages" & nothing happens for 10 minutes or I get the "can't connect to this page" message from windows. . . have logged in and out repeatedly. . .tried last night too & it appeared to have worked but I never got a confirmation e-mail & my webpage just says there is no-one on my tree. . .does this happen often? Malcolm - if you're having problems, put your question on the TribalPages Forum page. Either one of the other members or the Tribal Pages Support Team will answer it. I've solved all my little problems that way!

Me too! Have you found the 'demo' page yet? It's brilliant, with loads of extra ideas. The user ID is 'demo' - just shows what you can do!

Joined it yesterday - had an email thsi morning to say my Gedcom has loaded ok. What a brilliant site. Like others I wanted to make a web page, but steered clear because I wasn't sure how to go about it. Now here it all is. Thanks for the tip. Pauline

Hello Karen. Go to your homepage and click on 'edit'. This will prompt you for your administrator name and password; enter these. This will now bring up the 'edit' mainpage. Click on 'GEDCOM' and at the bottom of that page, it gives you the option of loading it. All you do is reload your new one and it automatically replaces the old one.

Karen, it works directly from GEDCOM, delete yourself then upload your GEDCOM

Not sure if I'm stating the obvious here, but I've got my TribalPages site saved as a Favourite and, as I only have to click on it in my favourites list, I haven't once had problems accessing the site. I have sent out various invitations and haven't received much response - but whether that's because the invitations are not working or my contacts (who I, of course, assumed would be just as excited as me about their ancestors!) just haven't bothered to get excited I'm not sure!!! I've put a whole load of photos on my site now - and that's made such a difference. It's really brought everyone to life, so to speak!

This password thing has been the subject of big arguments on their forum but as Amanda says with the living person controls( in settings you can choose not to display names or DOB fo living persons) it is pointless. Having to e-mail someone to view their tree is a pain. The basic information about our ancestors is public domain and doesn't belong to anybody (dead ones that is). Bob

Tyne, If you go to the main page for TP, at the top right hand corner you can type in on the search box for one of your surname interests. It will then bring up a list of family trees that have your surname interest in them. At the bottom of this page it asks if you would like to add your family tree to the search engine for TP. If I remember correctly you then click on Click Here and it asks for your user name and password. After that it's all over, it does take the site a while to be updated, I put my tree into the search engine a few days ago and it still has not been added yet but the site does say this will be done when they next update. As for adding a password, I don't see the point, I want people to see my tree, so that I can hopefully find as many connections as possible. I just make sure that living persons have only first initials, last names and no dates or places where born, married etc, to be seen and I also have their permission (very important).

Thank you good folks for letting me know via this forum about the TP website! I have just joined and done some of the family tree. Wonderful site! I have put a password on but think I shall take it off again, as I agree - what is the use of having the thing if no one can look at it? Just wondered what others thought about that topic. How do you publicise it with the surnames so that anyone interested in the same names can be alerted to it? Tyne

Congratulations Susie! Lets all have a look then!. There is a message board/ forum on the TB site (though not a good as these) They seem to argue a lot as well! It has some technical queries which can be of use. Bob
