Through one of the Devon OPC co-ordinators I was referred to this site. It seems to be by invitation only, but the thing they are trying to do is have everyone enter their ancestors from the 1881 England and Wales (only) census (on the LDS site) to see if they match up with other members ancestors. So far nobody matches up with the few I have put on! Just wondered what opinions there might be about this new site? Anyone else put their ancestors on yet? Regards Barbara |

since I don't have a referral/invite I filled in the section at the bottom (just enter your email address) and they will contact you when the service/site is up and running for the general public. Joanne |

I found on another forum regarding this site, where someone suggested using the passcode age-net to get in. I used it and did get in. |

Hi, Got in ok and have entered relatives - but (I know this is a daft question and I should know the answer) what is the difference between a direct descendant and a blood relative? |
|||
|
Maggie in Leics | Report | 29 Jul 2004 08:05 |
Direct Ancestor - Parent, Grandparent, Great Grandparent etc - such as would appear on your genes ancestors page. Blood relative - Sibling or children, grandchildren, great grandchildren etc of sibling of Parent, Grandparent, Great Grandparent etc - all those people who appear on your genes tree page in addition to your direct ancestors. Thanks for referral Barbara. Entered some of mine this a.m. and have just gone back and it now won't let me enter any more ancestors - is giving an error message. Oh well, will wait and see if it sorts itself out before contacting the webmaster; Carole |

oops.. I just used that age-net password and got in. But that means that some random person who didn't refer me probably just a free months membership thanks to me! Looks like a good idea for a site, but I'm not sure I want to start paying yearly membership for another site. |

At the moment there is no subscription fee, they say they MAY put one in but so far have not - it's all free for now. Lets hope it stays that way! I was not really looking for people to help me out re possible subscription I found it an interesting site thought that others might be interested too and it's frustrating waiting for them to open it to the public! I found this site through the Essex Family History Society and the password given was ESX. I did'nt have any problem getting in and have entered most of my relations from the 1881 census and now I guess I sit back and see if it finds any of my lost cousins. The site says it is free at the moment but MAY start to charge in January next year. |

Hi, I looked at this site after some info found in Your Family Tree magazine and it looks like a good idea. You enter information about your relations from the 1881 census and if anyone matches up you are notified automatically. I think the site has been updated since this orignal posting. Only problem is if your ancesters are "missing" or hiding on the 1881 census you're stuck. Cleo |

Just had a look at this site. Does it mean that your e-mail address will be log-in, and does that mean it will be on show to all? Just a bit puzzled Jean |

No your email address won't be on show its just a convienient username that you won't forget. I have put all the rellies i can find on there so far from the 1881 census but I have not had any matches yet. |
