This program can be used along with AD-AWARE and SPYWAREBLASTER - see thread "1 STOP ROUTINE PC MAINTENANCE" for the above mentioned programs. SPYWAREGUARD can be found at: http://www.javacoolsoftware(.)com/spywareguard.html Remember to remove the ( ) from the address. SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method. An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware! And you can easily have an anti-virus program running alongside SpywareGuard. SpywareGuard now also features Download Protection and Browser Hijacking Protection! Features Listing: - Fast Real-Time Scanning engine - catch and block spyware before it is executed (EXE and CAB files supported) with signature-based scanning for known spyware and heuristic/generic detection capabilities to catch new/mutated spyware. - Download Protection - prevent spyware from being download in Internet Explorer. - Browser Hijacking Protection - stop browser hijacking activity in real-time. - SG LiveUpdate - provides an easy updating solution. - Small size - with a small size and small definition sizes, download and updates are quick. - Report Capabilities - keep a detailed log of all spyware detected. - Spyware files are blocked before being opened or run - they are not simply shut down after they are loaded in memory (and after they have performed their tasks.) It's a FREE download. Judy

Hello Judy, having successfully followed your directions for Ad-aware, which functions well, I also received at the same time a certain SPYWARE STORMER, who is he? after doing a scan, he asks for money before going any further. Is he necessary? I say he, because women never ask me for money. Even my wife says I look poor, luv, Derek in France

Judy

Judy Report 22 Aug 2004 21:04

Hi Derek.....I have no idea what Spyware Storm is....programs I mention to use for PC have, to date, all been free. If there's anything that doesn't appear to be on the up and up when you attempt to download a program I suggest give me a shout....there are some programs that will mask themselves to appear to be a popular download when infact it's something else. I also suggest NOT allowing a site to scan your PC....there is always a hidden agenda to these sites and their programs....either they want money, you've allowed them to add spyware to your PC by allowing the scan, or you've allowed access to your PC. Judy :)

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 23 Aug 2004 18:06

Hi Judy - thanks for the tip. I already have Adaware & Spywareblaster & AVG - along with ZoneAlarm (basic version) - would you recommend Spyguard as a replacement for ZoneAlarm or should I keep that as well? Anne

Judy

Judy Report 23 Aug 2004 18:33

Hi Anne......ZoneAlarm is similar to Spywareguard.....I used it myself at one time, however, I like the Spywareguard better....just a personal preferance. Spywareguard is also the program that our computer technicians at our shop recommend. They tend to know more on this stuff than I do so I usually go with what they use themselves. Judy

Anne.... Just looking back at this thread and noticed you mentioned having AVG. I recommend that you replace the AVG Anti-Virus with a more reliable one like NORTON or McAFEE as the AVG has proven in our shop to be unreliable. It's fine to use temporarily when there is nothing else available - better to have something than nothing, but it does not do a very good job of protecting your PC or removing things that it does find. It does work to some degree but we've been getting a lot of infected PC's that have been using AVG. The PC's were easily cleaned up when we added either Norton or McAfee (customers preferance on that one although I prefer NORTON.) Judy :)

Hi Judy - thanks for the tip - will get onto it! Cheers :)

Just for the record, this program (SPYWAREGUARD) works in conjunction with SPYWAREBLASTER and ADAWARE. All three programs should be installed and you'll be pretty much spyware protected to the hilt. SpywareBlaster and Adaware links for the programs can be found on the TIPS board, thread "1 Stop Routine PC Maintenance." Feel free to give me a shout if you have any problems or questions about the programs.....all are FREE. Judy :)

Hi Judy Thanks for your advice on downloading these programmes stopping spyware, I always perform an Adaware Scan when I come off line and several times the anti spyware programmes you suggest have prevented my browser from being hijacked by a blacklisted site. Thanks once again Rosemary

Hi I downloaded Spybot free of charge and it works fine.

Judy

Judy Report 17 Sep 2004 22:37

Although Spybot does what it says it will do - remove spyware, it adds A LOT of it's own spyware to your PC, which is why I don't recommend this one. Try downloading ADAWARE as well and run both.....you'll see what I mean as it will find all the same things that SPYBOT does PLUS it will find all the junk that SPYBOT placed on your PC. Adaware is also free (they also have a version you pay for)....for those of you who are having trouble downloading or finding the free version let me know as I have it posted so you can download it direct without having to search. Judy

I just downloaded this, one for xp, and it came up with a file invalid or missing message. I've uninstalled, should I try one of the other ones. Diane

Judy, we have SPYWAREBLASTER downloaded, and Zone alarm. When I tried to download ADAWARE, it got so far and then asked me to pay! Can you help me with this, please? Then I shall try to download SPYWAREGUARD, too. I am grateful to you for the advice. regards Joy
