LOL Anne, thats a thought, but somehow Sykes doesn't really sound like a jewish name!! |

How about SYKES as an alternative name? Try saying it with a Birmingham accent. Anne |

I checked that marriage Bernice, it was not to a Soikes. You can only cross reference on 1837 online, IF you know the partners surname, the alternative is to order the certificate. Sam |

What is your grandads name. There are quite a lot of Sivermans on Ancestry. Do you know if your dad was the eldest child or were there others before him (just to narrow down the date for a marriage). Kath. x |

Thanks for all your help guys, gonna go and look on 1837 and see if I can tie up stokes and silverman for a marriage. |

Stokes sounds a possibility, why is it soikes on my dads birth cert then? Surely that would have been noticed. |

On my dads birth cert it def says Soikes, its driving me nuts because I can't find his mums marriage to Jacob Silverman. I have been right back to 1905. |

There is nothing coming up for that surname on Ancestry or FreeBMD, is the writing bad? Perhaps you cannot see it properly Sam |

If you give you your dad's full name here and the district he was born, I'll have a look on 1837online and see wht it gives as mother's maiden name. Kath. x |
