Hi Heather, Is it easy to publish your web pages? Are the instructions in FTM 2005? Annie |

Heather was this the 1901 census? I just found a lot more info as well on the 1891, I just need to get my head around it all. I also have in 1891 Matilda Jane Wright (who was married to Henry Wright) living in Southampton with her son William and Frank.... goodness knows who Frank is, when I went to the local archives office there was not a Frank? And it would seem that they are about 10 years out on Williams age. That is such a lot. Then I've got Jane Doughty (70) who is Matilda's mother and is widowed. Annie |

Thank you Heather and Laird, But if Matilda isn't there, how do YOU know she exists? I know obviously, I just wonder if I'm just terribly BLONDE... Anniex |

Annie - if you have FTM(2005) just add the names in as Heather outlines them - this way you will have a 'picture' to look at - much easier than 'words' Heather - 'Crystal English' award ! |

Ann, On the census the household is listed and the following are the relationships: Jane Doughty is the mother of Matilda Wright and Annie James. (Matilda was not in this household when the census was taken). Jane Doughty is the grandmother of Annie Wright. Jane Doughty is the mother in law to the head of the family - (Annie James husband, Charles James.) Annie Wright is the daughter of Matilda Wright. Annie Wright is the grandaughter of Jane Doughty. Annie Wright is the neice of Annie James and her husband with whom she is living. The only person not on there is Matilda (Annie Wrights mum - she is the one to look for. |

Sorry I can't see this Heather. But if Jane Doughty is Annie James's mother - who is Annie Wright's mother? and Matilda Jane Doughty and Henry Wright had Annie Wright? Henry Wright died in 1888 which would make it right for Jane Doughty to be widowed and all the other children would be old enough not to be with their mother except Annie Alice Wright - she was only 13. I can't see the relationship between Annie James and Jane Doughty - especially as it says mother in law to the head of the family, which would make Jane Doughty Annie James's mother. |

Ann, this information is further back on the thread, but I am copying it for you: Ann it acutally says that Annie James is the aunt of your Great Grannie Annie. Also, if you look on the list of people there there is a mother-in-law (which would be Annie James mum) with the name Doughty. That lady would be your Annies gran - your Great Grannie x 3. So the marriage you have with the Matilda Doughty as Annies mum would be correct. Annie James is Matilda's married sister. Jane Doughty is Matildas mother and the mother of Annie James. |

Dear Heather and Laird, Can you please help me work through this... I'm really confused..:- I have Henry Wright and Matilda Jane Doughty - married. In 1888 Henry Wright died. Matilda became a widow... The children they had were:- Matilda Jane Wright (1867) Ellen Charlotte Wright (1869) Henry William Wright (1872) Thomas Walter Wright (1875) Annie Alice Wright (1878) Lilian Rose Wright (1888) Then in 1891 I have the following information (you gave tyou) Living in Marlborough House, Portsea Charles James (33) Head Annie James (31) wife Annie Wright (13) neice (who would be Henry & Matilda's daughter) Jane Doughty (no age) mother in law - Widow - which ties in. Where I am confused is the relationship between Annie James and Jane Doughty (I thought perhaps Jane Doughty is Matilda Jane Wright Annie Wrights mother) If Jane Doughty is Annie James mother as well - It wouldn't make sense with two Annie's in the family? for children? Could Annie James be Jane Doughty's sister - and if so - why does it say mother in law to head, leaving me to think that it is Annie James mother? Hope you can help me think through this one, because it's baffled me. Anniex |

Ann, LDS is the church of the Latter Day Saints. Most people call them Mormons. They have a site called familysearch - you can google for it. You have access to the 1881 census free and also they have some parish records and some family trees submitted by members also bmd. I wonder if Charles had any children in South Africa who you could contact for grandad. Hey, did grandad send us all a kiss aswell? Including Laird? |

Just arrived back from taking the dog swimming!!! And printed off all the msgs for granddad to read... so he's really chuffed and said how lovely you all are. So thank you again. Can you please tell me what LDS is. Guess what.... also, I have had a lady called Lindy who has tracked Charles Thomas Clark down, as he went to South Africa in about 1919 - he died in 1967 aged 70, but she is still trying to help as granddad was really close to him. What an amazing day, for 96 years granddad has always wondered what happened to his whole family, wouldn't it be great to actually meet a decendant before he 'pops' off... And he better not, we've got a lot of work to do... He's just great as well.. |

If you search for Ann on the LDS site it also brings up females with the names Hannah and Nancy so it must be quite common for Anns to be Nancys. |

Annie If the marriage took place in Southampton, you can phone the Registry office up and just give them the names and year. You can pay by card on the phone and the certificate arrives next day. They are very good. |

Thats really good, will they do it free of charge? Brilliant conclusion, all round, eh. If I were you, Id print off all this info and spend some time sorting it out on paper and in your mind. Nancy could be a nick name for anything, my dad uses it for me and Im Heather - so dont let that worry you at all. It could be that her real name was Nancy and they called her Annie as a nickname! These are the right people and now you can send off for the cert and see your Great Grandads side starting up too. |
