Hellow again Beverley. Yes you're right with the info about Joseph. I have been able to trace the two brothers Joseph and William Heawood, not exactly why and when they moved from Oldbury to Leicester or who they stayed with (they were the youngest of the orphaned bunch at 11 and 9). Joe stayed in Leicester and William moved back to Smethwick (Nr. Oldbury)later, both married Leicester lasses. It is just the three sisters who seemed to disappear, and as Mike so cruelly pointed out, they change their names when marrying, hence the big gap for Mary, Hannah and Catherine. At least you both keep coming up with possible leads. Thanks a bunch it stops me from getting too disheartened. Thanks again Margaret Margaret

Thank you for offering more help Mike. Infomation is rather sketchy, I'm afraid. Ernest John LISTER married Harriet LAW in 1903 and they had 2 known sons, Ernest and Lawrence Cecil (b.Dec. 1907) Lawrence, known as Cis married Elsie DUVAL 1930

Hi Mike Do you mind me asking, do you have the Welford Road burials on a disc please? If you do, is it name searchable? My grandmother disappeared into thin air! her name was Edith Lavinia Kirwan nee Coupe, she was alive in 1924 but that's all I know. I've checked the Gilroes registers. Don't worry if you haven't a disc. Have just thought my dads birth cert says e.l.kirwan formerly Coupe, that normally indicates maiden name doesn't it, it wouldn't mean first married name would it? Bit of a grey area as not everyone follows the correct procedure which is :- Maiden Name. = Formally ...... If Married before = Late... (name of deceased or Divorcée) followed by formally...... maiden name. Example of that is my Grandmother Sarah Ann Hirons.... Late Hands..... formally Hall. I hope thats clear ? MIKE.

Hi Mike Thank you for the explanation, I think Coupe was her maiden name then although I can find no birth for her on the 1837 indexes and I can't find her marriage to my grandfather either, the only conclusion i come up with is they both came from Ireland and maybe she went back there after my fathers birth? LEICESTER. Tel. 0116 253 8745. (On the left hand side right at the top of High Street just before Highcross Street. ) Or I did see them at :- Leicestershire & Rutland Records Office Long Street. It would appear that in my Steeples tree, my gg grandmother, nearly all the males were made freemen of the City of Leicester. Would all these records be held in the records office at Wigston? Anyone know why Old Belgrave came under Barrow on Soar. They seem to be miles apart. Thanks Jo

Greeting's Again Jo..... Try giving the Records Office in Wigston a ring I'm sure they will have something on file..... Tel :- 0116 257 1080. Old Belgrave was a Village in it's own right, and so was outside the City Borough of Leicester, so it would come under Barrow -Upon -Soar Confusing I know be there you go Barrow was a very big District in it's time..... The District where Belgrave is was originally Waste and Marsh Land hence the Name in the Domesday Book (1086) Merdegrave.... Mearth... (Martin's ) graf.... (grove brushwood thicket ) Mearth ....Old French for excrement or filth. MIKE.

JoJo>> My Caves were also made freeman of the city of Leicester. There are 3 books in the records office that have details of all the freeman. They are in the same room as the fische readers just on the book shelves to the left as you go in the door. They are really useful as they give the date when the person was made a freemen and their father. Eg one of mine said '17 July 1832 William Cave FWK 3rd son of Jarvis FWK who was 1st son of Jarvis' The books cover the years up till about the 1980s, the first book is supposed to be from 1100's but i didn't find anything relating to my lot from before the late 1600s Paula
