Thanks Mike for the help with Hannah Heawood?Haywood. I shall just keep trying. I know she was in Freeth St Oldbury in 1877 when father Edward died. So it looks like keep trawling and hoping. Frustrating but rewarding hobby!!!!! Thanks for giving me a shove in the right direction. Margaret

Greeting's again Margaret..... Sorry for the delay but Friday Night is my Scout Group Night... 'What steps to take......you ask ?' 'Big ones and in the opposite direction .'...lol :0) Sorry...now still can't find your Hannah in 1881. I've tried all variations and angles I can think of ...:0( Same goes for a marriage......Other than a trawl through 1837 Web site from 81 ~91. I know they didn't get married at St. Margaret's Church. For the above dates... I know William was still unmarried in 1881. as I've found him :- RG 11 / 3172 / Folder. 109. / Page. 17. Leicester. St. Margaret's Parish. No. 16. Swan Street. Jane Clement. Head. Widow. 43. Cotton Spinner. Leicester. WILLIAM. Son. Umar. 19. Trimmer Hosiery. b. Chesterfield. Derby. Margaret. Dau. Umar. 17. Worsted Reeler. b. Leicester. John. C. Son. 14. Boot Finisher. b. Leicester. © Crown Copyright National Archives. Also found William & Hannah still at No. 50 Abbey Gate on Census 1891 and 1901. with same details as before.... and still no Childen..... ( Which would have been the right way to find out for sure if it's your Hannah Heawood / Haywood /Heywood / Hairwood / Harwood / Hearwood....) By ordering a birth Cetificate.... MIKE.... Now back on Prozac....lol :0)

Thanks Mike for rechecking the 1871 census for Hannah Haywood re the Brown connection. The address at 50 Abbey Gate (1891) and the marriage with William J Clements does look promising. Being new to all this what direction should I go in to try and check this new lead. Should I go for a marriage cert. for them to see if it is my Hannah? Grateful for any suggestions. Margaret

Thanks Mike, I had looked quickly at the 1881 census and not at my list of births, they both vary a bit! My family seemed to like changing their age. Regards

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 6 May 2005 00:04

Greeting's Again Margaret..... I rechecked the 1871. again.... But it only stated VISITOR.... NOT Neice/ Sister in Law. or anything which would link her to them:0( Can only think Isaac & Eliza were some sort Foster Parent / Ward of Court....But didn't want to state that ?...... Hannah seems to have gone to ground from 1871. I've just done a search with just.... 'Hannah born 1859. + - 5 Years. and born in St. Margaret's Parish Leicester. ' It came up with only one hit........ So...... just wonder if this could be a long shot ? 1891 Census..... RG 12 / 2541. / Folder 118. / Page. 7. Leicester. St. Leonard's Parish. No. 50. Abbey~Gate. William. J. Clements. Head. Mar. 29. Hosiery maker. b. Chesterfield. HANNAH. Wife. 31.(1860.) Glove Maker. b. Leicester. © Crown Copyright National Archives. And still at same address 1901. But Hannah states born 1858 (aged 43) Glove Hand. and William's occupation is a Glover (not Muslin) and NO children..... MIKE.

Hi Mike That is just fab info about where Hannah Haywood was on census day 1871. I wonder who these people were 'the Browns' that she was visiting. Her mother Mary had already died in Oldbury in 1870 but Edward didn't die until 1877. In 1881 census William and Joseph her brothers were visitors at a house in Oldbury, listed under the name of Hawood. It seems like the family were being spread around. Quite a mystery. Thanks again for such interesting information. Margaret

Margaret Report 5 May 2005 21:23

Hi Mike I knew I could get a quick result from you. Hannah Haywood is obviously the second daughter of Edward and Mary. I assumed she was the eldest because she did not appear on the 1871 census, I thought perhaps working, she may have just been away on the day. It can be such a pain having a name like Heawood with so many variations of the spelling, but this doesn't stop you. The 5 children were orphaned by 1877 so I am trying to find out what happened to them. Once again my thanks for your help. Margaret

Hi Mike Haven't bothered you for ages with the Heawood family but have found another problem so thought I would be a nuisance again. You found Edward Heawood's marriage to Mary Tyers at St. Margarets Leicester 19.10.1857. I have now been told he had a daughter Hannah who must have been born in Braunstone around 1857/1858 but I haven't found anything about her. Her name appears on Edwards death cert. as daughter. I have only known of Mary, Catherine, William and Joseph. Could you try and find her for me. Thanks Margaret
