Sorry but I couldn't find John listed in the army in Canada. This is the site though, lots of Canadian databases can be viewed http://www.genealogy.gc.ca/06/06_e.html I'll be having a look through them for any other info |

Why Lilian - it was Daisy who was Lilian!! She married Walker and I've tried that one. Kate |

Another thought, would John have served in WW1? I know there is a brilliant site for the Canadian Army but I can't recall the addy. I looked up some stuff about one of my ancestors and you could download their army papers which give next of kin details, birthplace etc. Maybe someone else can remember it? Update - have found the site, now looking. |

OK - Laird - I remember! Yep - I'll be off to Harrow Library (or wherever the records are kept) at some stage as I have another line of family to trace there! Oh Joy! Mousy brown is back! Kate |

Yep - Grandad said that Rose married a chap called ? Gibson and they had children called Margerie and Stanley - I can't find any Rose/Gibson marriages! Or her death as Rose Gibson. Also, said that Daisy married a chap called ? Walker and they would have lived around Stamford, Lincs - they had a son called George? I am sure I will not have exhausted the research yet! I guess there are other clues etc. Kate |

Hi Sarah Thanks for that! I have had a look at the birth cert again and it is from the GRO - it is a certified copy of an entry of birth! Does this mean that they photocopied from the register? Could this be wrong? It gives me some other clues (if only I kjnew how to use them) - for example - it tells me that John Alexander was ex-army and gives the address the resided at, at the time of the cert! Can I use these bits of info d'you think? Kate |

Interesting point Sarah ! Kate, I was referring to Electoral Rolls being available in Libraries (sometimes ...) - when we last discussed the Wicks I thought Jnr Wicks was born in the Harrow area, hence saying look there, not Woolwich. I think ! (was blonde at birth) |

Helen As far as my family are aware he was English and in particular - came from London area! Though, this is not conclusive! I suppose it is possible that the John Alexander Wicks you came up with is him - but I don't know how I would be able to tell unless I can find his marriage and I can not find a marriage for this man to a Jean or Jane Maslen!! Is there any other way you can think of that I can connect him to my Grandad other than the info I have on my Grandad's birth cert, which does not tell me where he originated! Kate |

Laird - nice to hear from you! No - I haven't yet - are electoral rolls online then? - I assumed I would have to visit Woolwich to get access, which is why I didn't do it!! How you doing anyway? E-mail and let me know! Kate |

Was John Wicks a Canadian or had he gone over there from UK? Just that I found this birth, the only one on FreeBMD with the exact name and round about possible age to have married Miss Maslen. Name: WICKS, John Alexander Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1887 District: East Preston County: Sussex Volume: 2b Page: 34[2_] |

Hold off until you hear back then. 'not yet...' by the following morning is a bit of an expectation! |
