I thought that the witnesses on one of my marriage certs were insignificant. I tried to investigate those people anyway. I found one of them lived next door to the groom, and that he was in fact married to the grooms sister! With a name like Smith though! pat

Just a thought, but say Poole wasnt his birth name and he had a step father and took his name? In which case we should be looking for a William born Haverhill in what, 1827?

Hi Thankyou for your that, if William Poole was 24 in 1871 when he married he would have been born 1847 if he was 44 in 1881 as the census says he would have been born 1837 and I have found one William Poole born in 1831 with a father George which made him 39-40 when he married in 1871. What is just as puzzling is I can't find a death certificate for him, and I know his wife Emma remarried in 1893 in a church and she was down as a widow as she was in the 1891 census. On the 2 eldest children both born in Haverhill the name was Pool without the e. so his name was either William Poole-Pool although on his marriage certificate it has the E thank you Margaret

Have you seen this one in the 1861? Note Haverhill shown as Essex instead of Suffolk. They are all silk weavers, including the boy apparently. There is another family of Pages next door. Could Maria be William's auntie? David Page 1819 Haverhill, Suffolk, England Head Haverhill Essex Maria Page 1819 Haverhill, Suffolk, England Wife Haverhill Essex William Pool 1850 Haverhill, Suffolk, England Relative Haverhill Essex
