Lol Jess! The confusion! I grew up believing that he had been adopted but Im sure my fathers mother has the same surname, in fact Im positive. I didnt realise there was such a thing as a post adoption birth cert and that if he'd been adopted my surname wouldbe his adopted name. I'll stop now lol! Confusion over, thanks very much everyone for your help! :o) |

madlee, you are confusing us all!! lol If you, your father and the woman that gave birth to him all have the same surname then yes, this is the cert you want. The fact that he was brought up by some one else (i think that is what you are saying ) is almost by-the-by at this point Jess |

Moe Sorry im confused and confusing everyone else! The half sister is mine, my fathers daughter with another woman. There were 10 at last count! I know I have the same name as my dads mum and dad. The family he was brought up by had a different name. Maybe he wasnt adopted after all then. I grew up believing he had. So if he wasnt adopted and only fostered I should be able to get his parents names on birth cert? Thanks again x |

Madlee, if your father has the name of his birth parents its doubtful he was adopted, could you not look at his half sisters birth certificate for info? was she adopted/fostered? and does she have a different name to him or the same (birth name) MOE! |

Hi kay I know his birth parents names and also the name of the adopted family. His birth family have a not so common surname which I share and the family who raised him have a reallycommon scottish name. Just a thought, what if he was fostered and not adopted? |

Moe, anyone can apply for anyone's B / cert given the right info. However, what would be issued is is post adoption one (that wont mention the fact that he is adopted even) Would tell diddly squat that she doesn't know!! Madlee, as Kay says , the surname that you share is the post adoption name. it the pre-adoption one that you'd need jess |

Madlee,, If you share the same surname as your father ,,this will be his surname given to him when he was adopted,,his true birth surname name will be entirly different,,unless he was adopted by family with the surname name as he was born with and I think that is most unlikley,,or he came from a family member ,,where the surname stayed the same. kay. Ps..Any children your father has now> past > or in the future will share his now surname,,but when he was born his birth mother/parents would have put him in her own or theirown surnames/ |

Thanks Jess I was just going to add to your adoption thread. Im almost positive he still has the same first name, the only thing that changed was the surname. I believe he was 2 when he was adopted in Fife Scotland. I know his birth mum lives in Birmingham and Im kicking myself that I gave up a few chances to meet them when I was a child! |

Perhaps you could get help from your siblings if you have any??.but if you are not in contact with your father he may refuse any info being passed to you,, you will not be allowed any from his adoption file;;;; |

only the adoptee has access to their records, and only they can access the information as to who they were against who they became. Unless you know where and when he was adopted, then you may be able to hazzard a guess- you know his birth surname?then you should possibly be able to trawl and at least get close to his christian name if surname not too common. how eithical this is , i am not sure. jess |
