Wow, 242 replies. And so quickly. I didnt expect too many people over in England to have old photos as some would have been lost to bombing in the war, and then there are those people who throw out old photos when mum/dad/aunt/uncle/whoever dies. Please can you let us know what conclusions you come to, some time? |

Thanks to a great response from family historians, this survey is now closed to enable me to have enough time to analyse and write up the results. Thanks very much to all of those who took the time to complete it - now I have the fun of reading it all - but the responses look really interesting! I knew picking something family history related would be good - not just for my own interest, but because family history researchers are such a helpful and generous bunch. This posting on genesreunited has been particularly helpful so a special thank you to those who helped me by amending the URL etc. In the end I have collected 242 responses which is brilliant! I still have to arrange the interviews, so if you have expressed an interest in taking part, I will be emailing you personally soon. Thanks again, Fiona |

Thanks to those of you so far who have helped out with this by sorting out the address and in completing the survey. I need at least 150 replies, so if you are interested but haven't completed it yet, please do! If you are unsure about the dates of your photos (I have specified that my interest is in those dating from c.1840s to c.1901), please complete the survey considering those studio portraits in black and white that you know are not recent snapshots. That will be fine! All help is appreciated. Fiona P.S. Can someone explain the nudging thing on these posts? Is it to keep messages nearer the top of the posting list? I noticed it on a few threads. Thanks! |

Thank you Fiona for this post, I did the survey on line - much easier than when I did my dissertation and had to post out paper copies, expecting people to fill them in and then remember to post them back. By completing the survey it focussed my mind on not only my photographic records but also the way I store and index all my records. If you haven't done the survey yet, go on - have a go - its easy. There you go then Fiona, have pressed the 'done' button. Suggest you nudge this tomorrow in order to catch the daytime folks. Good luck with your dissertation. Kate :) |

OK, if you reply via this messaging service, then you should be able to give your email. If you can't, please try sending a message to lip06fhw at sheffield .ac .uk (obviously remove the spaces and replace the at with the correct symbol) and I will reply with the URL. Hope that works. Fingers crossed! Thanks for trying, Fiona |

I see the problem! I will email you both with the link of the survey in full. For anyone else who wishes to have a look, please email me using my address which should come up if you click my name (I think!) and I will send you the link in return. Thanks! |
