I knew someone who knocked a internal wall down in their house which they lived in for many years and shortly after they knocked this wall down they kept seeing this little girl sat on the end of their bed and then she would disapear. So maybe if the head stone was put back were it was found these happenigs may go.

I think that Charles is the slightly younger brother to my Rebecca. Very oddly, another branch of my family have connections to the Wrawby/Glanford Brigg workhouse. My 3 x great grandfather, George Empringham, was Master there at the 1861 & 1871 censues, with his son-in-law Henry Gibson (who married my 2 x great aunt Caroline Hall Empringham) Master in 1881-1911, Caroline being the Matron in those years. What a small world it turns out to be!

This post being so old, there might not be anyone watching it now. However, if anyone is, I'd be interested in an update. I found the thread doing a Google search whilst following up on my recent discovery of my own Wiglesworth/Wigglesworth connection. [A cousin of my great-great grandfather was called Jabez Wigglesworth Stow. Given the family had a long history of re-cycling maternal names as middle names, that lead me to finding that Rebecca Wigelsworth (born 1757 in Corringham) was their great grandmother, and hence my own ancestor.] That family does seem to have been based in Corringham for as long as I can trace them. Any thoughts?

Wendy, besides all the good advice here, can you get hold of a map of the area for those dates?i know my local museum has a map of my area in the 1800s so it will be worth checking out.Just google old maps of uk and see what you get i got mine online i think it was something GODFREY(i have lent them out so i don't have them here)good Luck...MOE!

What Olde Crone says makes a lot of sense. As the spirit is obviously distressed or perhaps wants to find something, then the first thing to do would be to ask her what it is. If your friend can not make contact with her herself, then there must be someone locally who can do this for her. It would be my (possibly way off the mark!) guess that it is a child looking for her mother.

Being one who does believe in spirits and being a co-founder of South Jersey Paranormal Research here in the states, I can attest from experience on investigations that I have been on that often when renovations are done in a home, particularly one that is old and has a history, it does indeed, stir up spirit activity. Young people are more sensitive to spirit activity than adults and believe it or not, what your friends daughter is experiencing is not all that uncommon, given the circumstances. I will, shes only 14 and she is scared to death. Her mother is taking her to a spiritualist church to see if they can help. she says the voice is muddled and she cant understand what its saying most of the time

Wendy, has the vicar blessed the house? That may be a useful first step in putting this soul to rest. If he does not do this sort of thing himself, he will know of somebody who does. A few years ago I had a similar presence in a work place, an old hospital and my husband, an Anglican Priest blessed the area and the presence went away. Christine in NZ

I agree with Merry - my grandmother was a spiritualist and my mother definitely knows things that nobody could possibly have told her (which I have found out at times to my cost!!). There must be someone who is experienced in these things that may be able to help.
