I have just received 3 items re Edinburgh, not much use for my lot but happy to share. I have 1842 post office directory for Ediburgh on CD. This lists names, streets, churches etc. I have monumental incriptions CD for Newington Cemetery I have a book on Scottish Trades, Professions, Vital Records & Directories which lists which directories have been published for the above items by type or by area. If these are of use to anyone let me know if you want a lookup. |

Jane I have been unable to find any Bray's either in the MI for Newington Cemetery or in the Post Office Directory. If you have an address at the time of Ann's marriage or at any point I can check against the street name. Hope you get better luck soon! Karen |

Suzanne I have found several Ker's in the MI for Newington Cemetery but only one Thomas who died as an infant (son of Janet Ker/David Inglis). You didn't give me his birth date so its hard to work out what might be connected. There is a James Ker wife of Janet Henderson, a Jane Ker married to George Spence and a Janet Ker married to a David Inglis On the PO directory I found a James Ker and a Robert Ker (surgeon) by going through the area lists. Obviously there are lots more KERR's. But again no Thomas. There are three sources for mechanical engineers, earliest 1905 which might be closest to your man, - but as I'm not sure of the period you are looking at I don't know if this would help? Karen |

Hi Karen, many thanks for your offer. If you can see anything for a William Kerr & Margaret Fleming anywhere I would be most grateful. I am afraid I have no information on them at all other than all their children were born in Edinburgh early 1800's. I know William was a stonemason. Live in hope. Hilary. x |

Karen, My James HEATHERILL was born in Edinburgh 1835 to father Richard (Grandfather Daniel). He had siblings Daniel, Thomas, John and Catherine. It does seem that any Heatherills in Edinburgh are mine, so any that you could find would be great!! Thanks, Maggie P.S. Daniel senior was a silver engraver, think Richard was a House Painter, Thomas and James seem to have been in the printing/stationery business, John emigrated to Australia. |

Sorry for the delay - Hilary - I found several Kerr's in the MI for Newington Cemetery but no William's that match yours. In the PO Director there were 3 William Kerr's, one a spirit dealer so not yours, and Wm M Kerr esq, 6 Carlton Terr and Wm (late sec. GPO), 2 Robbs Court. No other information I'm afraid but you could check the addresses at a census for other family. Karen |

Hi Karen Could you please look up a William Lumsdane/Lumsdain/lumsden for me. I have a choice of 3 sets of parents for my Margaret Lumsdane who married James Farmer in 1821. By then her father had died so if the other two are still alive then I might be able to work out her parentage!!!. One was a wright and one was a joiner and I don't think I have an occupation for the third. Also any Farmers would be great too. Thanks hopefully. |

Karen This is really kind of you - thank you. Please could you look up my Mackies? I have David Mackie, occupation coppersmith, living in the Edinburgh area, died in 1866. His wife was Mary Ann Anderson Crighton. Children were Helen Grieve Mackie (1830), John Mackie (1832), Robert Mackie (1834-1893, printer/pressman), David Mackie (1837-1915, plumber) and James Mackie (1838, tobacco spinner). Any information you could give me would be most welcome, although I do appreciate that there are a lot of Mackie's in Edinburgh! If you would like me to do some research on Ancestry for you in return, please let me know. Best wishes, Karen |

Hi Karen Could you please see if you can find anything on the following: Peter Forbes, born c. 1790, married to Jane. I believe he was a wine merchant. Robert Morton, born c. 1775, wife Nancy Possibly a jeweller at some point, also raised money for Union Canal. I appreciate your sources may be a bit late for this guy but he was still alive in 1841. Andrew Kerr Young, Surgeon, born c 1790, married to Grace. I'm not sure if this is enough information, please don't look if it isn't ..... I know they were all in Edinburgh at some point in their lives, but I don't know exactly when, so it's all a bit sketchy. Many thanks anyway. Bev x |

Hi Karen Wonder if you could find anything on my McIntosh or Hume familes? So far, while they are still in Edinburgh, I have John McIntosh, son of John and Mary McIntosh, marrying Elizabeth Hume, daughter of David and Elizabeth Hume in Edinburgh in 1855. I would love to know the maiden surname of Mary and any other information that there might be. John senior was a hatter, John junior was a coach lace maker, David Hume was a bookbinder. The addresses given on the wedding certificate I have are Blackfriars Wynd and Fountain Close. Would be most grateful if you could find anything at all. Thanks and best wishes Carol. |
