Thanks Jess, According to 1851 Elizabeth was born in Limehouse. I have the brother and sister above her's baptisms from St Annes Limehouse. I just noticed that Ann in 1841 and Elizabeth in 1851 are probably one and the same which also fits with the marriage you found for Elizabeth Ann.

Oh yes I remember now. I have a list of people I'm looking out for on 1841/51 and Quincy Hamilton Haysman is on there! Thanks for looking for Matilda, I tend to think she must have died or got married before 1881 - just not in Poplar or Limehouse where she should be! Thanks everyone for your help. At least now I am sure that I have the right Matilda in 1871.

She was Ann Hamilton (nee Trotter). Living at 16 John Street, Stepney, MEOT. She listed herself as a widow but her husband (John Quincy Hamilton) was alive and well(ish) living in the Mincing Lane area. We think there was a family split and she put widow for respectibility sake. Can't find hubbie acutually listed though, although we know he didn't die until 1866 and definitely had business premises at Dunster Court, Mincing Lane. I think you looked for him before for me. Another kind friend on here has also searched the whole of the 1861 London CDs for me and can't find him anywhere. (Someone else I owe a huge favour too!) Yet another of my brick walls LOL. Hope you have better luck with Matilda, I've done some digging but can't find an alternative 1871 or 1881 that seems to match. Maybe someone else will have better luck. Kate :)

Image winging its way..... Thought we might have another coincidental connection for a moment. I have a rellie, on John Street, Tower Hamlets in 1861 but she was classed as Mile End not Limehouse. That would have been spooky. Kate :)

I don't know Heather. I have spent a fortune on wrong certs for this family. The really annoying thing is that in 1861 she is at the bottom of the page and her place of birth is illegible. I don't have access to Ancestry (waiting for 1851!) so I can't go back and look at the 1871 image. Serves me right for not printing it off!

Lyla, dont take me as gospel, just throwing in more ideas probably wrong. In fact now I look at the names of the kids, I think I am wrong. Do you think it could be a case of the old transcriber looking up a line when he wrote her job and place of birth?

Heather, thank you. So I do have the wrong Matilda in 1871. It did seem strange that she became a greengrocer all of a sudden! It was just that her childrens ages all seemed to match. So, back to 1861-1871 Matilda deaths, unless anyone can find her on a census?

Well I have found a Lucy married to a Richard Austin and a possible Matilda wrong age with an Alfred Taylor so I think I have to rule out those particular marriages for now:( Do you think the Matilda in 1871 is the right one? I suppose I could try and track her daughters and see if she is listed under one of their married names? Why couldn't she die in Poplar/Limehouse? Guess I'll have to carry on working my way through the 1837online list then as and when funds permit it:(
