Greetings Mike! How half baked can I get! As you'd sent me a pm asking for more details on my John Thomas Read I'd automatically assumed that your response would come in the same fashion! That'll teach me not to assume! You'll have read my pm of today thanking you for all your efforts and now I click on to this thread and see all the painstaking information you posted yesterday! You can't imagine how much of an idiot I'm feeling! Your info certainly sounds most promising, particularly with the Bengal India connection. How on earth did you find that bit out? Thank you for everything. Cherry

Hi Mike Thanks as always, yes I would believe that about the registers. I rang them about coroners reports and of course the year I want is missing so when I finally get there I will be searching through newspapers and no doubt some phenomenom will have destroyed them or the only available micro fiche will be broken LOL Elaine

I have asked for help before on this one. Emma Baines born about 1841. You found her for me in 1851. I have now been contacted by a genes member who could be a relative and wonder if you could find her on the 1871 census. I know she was living with her uncle as her parents had died but have forgotten his name. I have very few details of her family and would love to know if our family trees are indeed connected.

Hi Mike A few months ago you very kindly looked up some information for me regarding my grandfather George Carter b abt 1873. In the 1881 census he was living at 8H ct B, Oxford St, Leicester along with his sister Harriett b abt 1880 and his mother Jane b abt 1850. Jane's condition to marriage was listed as 'windower' which I had assumed to be widow. I could find no records for them after that date until you quite rightly suggested that Jane may have remarried, and you came up with her marriage date and new family name. To cut a long story short I have since discovered that Jane wasn't actually married when she had her children. I have been unable to find the correct birth registrations for George or Harriett to find out who their father(s) was, and wondered if you had access to the St Marys Parish records to see if they were baptised at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bev

Thank you very much for Emma Baines. That is the one I found earlier. Do you have the 1841 census. I wonder if you could find Mary Baines living with her daughter Eleanor who would be about 4 which might give us a father for Emma. It is quite exciting as I thought I had reached a brick wall once I found Emma had been orphaned. Do you know where Tugby is?

Hi again Mike. Thanks for that. A while ago I did send for the 1873 birth certificate for George but they didn't send it as the parents names didn't match. When George married in 1910 he put his father down as George (dec'd), and so this was the name I put as father when I applied for the certificate. However, since discovering that Jane was unmarried when she had him, I now realise that George (Snr) was actually Jane's father, so George Jnr's grandfather. Perhaps I should apply again with no parent details. What do you think? Kind regards Bev

Beverly Report 9 Dec 2005 19:32

Hi Mike Thanks very much for looking. I don't think the double baptism will be my family. It looks like I will have to put my hands in my pocket and send for the 1873 birth certificate to find out one way or another if it's George's. I don't hold out much hope. I presume it wasn't compulsory to register children at that time. Thanks again Bev
