If you have seen any of my previous posts you will probably know that i became stuck when researching my family tree on my Fathers side. I have since ordered and received my Grandfathers birth certificate but I seem to have hit a blank again. My Grandfather - John Thomas Mawson was born on the 16th April 1908. His father is listed as Robert William Mawson (coal miner) and his Mother is listed as Margaret Mawson (formerly McGeorge). How can I take this branch of my family tree further? All help will be very much appreciated. |

Paul Mawson Robert South Shields.10a 1366 Marriage Q4 1900 Mcgeorge Margaret South Shields.10a 1366 Marriage Q4 1900 If you send off for their marriage certificate, you will get their fathers' names. Suzy PS I have had a look at the 1901 census, but there are quite a few Margarets and Roberts. |

Paul Next step would be to find the marriage of Robert and Margaret. That Certificate would give you their father's Joy |

Ok, if I manage to get my Great Grandfathers marriage certificate, will this enable me to get his date of birth (or year of birth)?? |

|
Suzy | Report | 24 Nov 2005 21:50 |
Paul Marriage certificates state age (i.e. 21) which SHOULD give you an idea of year of birth. Not always accurate though. It should enable you to find Robert and Margaret in the census returns. Suzy |

In answer to the earlier query, my Granfather was born in Holywell, Northumberland - The district of which is Tynemouth. Is it best to get certificates for every step just to be 100% certain? |

The birth certificate of Margarets Son (My Grandfather) does not show her as having a middle name, can this be relied upon? |

Confused. The earlier census entry seems to suggest my Great Grandfather was born in Fighting Cocks, Northumberland. Is that true, or am I misreading the info? Sorry for being blonde, but the eagerness to research my family tree is not always compatible after coming home after a 12 hr shift lol |
