Judy Sorry i did not get back to you but i then went away for the weekend. The 'sliding' is cured now so i can only assume that it was something to do with gR as it was not happening anywhere else. Slipping might have been a better word, slipping a little bit when i changed pages before it stabilised. but as I said OK now. thanks. Ann Glos

Judy, Thank you again, but I don't think it can be at her end as they e-mails are coming into my computer - they are not cards, only ordinary written e-mail messages - They go into my Macafee Spamkiller, into the accepted mail box and at this stage, I have now discovered that they are fully readable for the few days that they remain in there - the Macafee doesn't put them into the 'blocked mail' folder and so the problem does not seem to be there. BUT, by the time they are transferred into my inbox in Outlook Express, there are no words !! Your first fix resolved the problem for me on the pictures but there still seems to be something in OE or IE, taking out all the text from this particular contact. I will check the 2 programmes you mention but I am sure I already have these. Thanks, Dea

Oh good grief! I must apologize as I just noticed I have been addressing some (all?) of my responses to the wrong names......lack of sleep and should have my glasses on! Hopefully you all know what answers go to whom and I will respond appropriately when I come back! LOL! Judy

Ann: I'm not sure I know what you mean when you say your page is sliding down..... could you explain it a little differently? Does it only happen on the GR site? I am off the bed now but I will be back later and will look for your response. Judy

Dea: Proctor and Gamble, being they are a large company, may have some type of block on their system preventing employees from sending such items - I would lay money on it that their system is well secured AND well monitored as to what their employees are up to. I'm not sure if you read all above, as I added more to my reply while you were typing your last message. DO download and install the two programs I mentioned above and I bet you will then be able to view the card. Judy

Thanks Judy, I MAY not need it but will keep the information to hand. - I am just waiting for my friend to resend the message to see if it now comes through. It would seem though, from what you have said, that this relates to receiving pictures ?? - All the e-mails in my inbox on Outlook Express now have their pictures visible since I did the other changes you told me about. These particular e-mails from my friend only contain text so I am not sure what is happening to them. I DID wonder, as she sends them from her place of work which is a Company called Proctor & Gamble, whether the word 'Gamble' was causing a problem somewhere (my system may think this is on-line betting or something similar??) - What do you think? Many thanks for your help, as always. Dea P.S. - Hope you, and they enjoy the party !! xx

Dea: Sorry for the delay in getting back to your thread. Between the time differance between us, my volunteer work today cooking for the war veteran's Christmas party on Saturday and a trip to the bar (pub) for a little R & R (rest and relaxation!) I am just now getting in the door (4 am my time!) In answer to your question about the card that was sent to you that is still blank, it could be that you need to have your friend re-send it or (try this first before having her resend) that you are lacking a necessary program on your PC that would enable you to view the card. I can think of two programs off hand that every PC should have (both free!) that most people don't realize they need in order to a,) view things like the animated card in question and b.) to be able to get the most out of your Internet surfing. Those two programs and where to find them are below - just remember to remove the ( ) from the address. Download and install both - your PC will activate them automatically when they detect something that needs them in order to view them. Micromedia SHOCKWAVE: http://sdc.shockwave(.)com/shockwave/download/download.cgi Micromedia FLASH: http://www.macromedia(.)com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash *** NOTE *** Uncheck the Y* ahoo Toolbar option - you'll see it on the download page of these programs - so that it DOES NOT allow the toolbar to install along with Flash and Shockwave. You don't need this tool bar and it ADDS spyware to your PC - which you definately DO NOT want. Just in case you need it, I will post the directives for the Control Panel fix now: 1. Click on START. 2. Click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. From the list, click on INTERNET OPTIONS. 4. A screen with labeled tabs will appear - click on ADVNACED. 5. Scroll down to the subheading MULTIMEDIA. 6. Instead of listing what should shave a check mark in front of it, as most of the item here should be checked, I will list only what does NOT need a check mark in front of it. The one to leave UNCHECKED is the one that says: SHOW IMAGE DOWNLOAD PLACEHOLDERS. 7. If you made any changes in this area then simply click APPLY and OK. You'll note under the subheading Multimedea that one of the items has to do with SHOW PICTURES......this is the particular item that may be preventing you from viewing pictures if the Outlook directives did not fix your problem. That SHOULD have a check mark in front of it. Hope that helps! Any questions or problems, give me a shout. Judy An after thought: If a hyper link doesn't work for you - a hyper link being an address sent to you in an e-mail that when clicked on takes you to another site - and once getting to that site you get an error message telling you that the site is not available, there is a Control Panel change for that fix too.....let me know if that's a problem and I will send directives for that, too. This is a fix, too, if you often experience websites that you try to access and get an error message telling you that the site can't be found.

done all that, now have to see what happens when/if I get an e card. Only thing is when I add to posts or change threads my GR page seems to be sliding down. Doesthat make sense? Anybody else have the problem? Ann glso

Having said that Judy, All the other emails which have come in over the last few days, some of which have had their images blocked, now have their images fully available in my inbox. My friend's e-mail, however, is still totally blank. Does that mean I WILL need to do the changes in control panel, or should I wait until she resends and see if it comes in o.k. ?? Dea x

Dea

Dea Report 15 Dec 2005 18:59

Thank you Judy, I have asked her to resend. When she does, I will know if it has worked or not - I will come back to you if it hasn't. Thanks for your help. Dea x

Judy Report 15 Dec 2005 18:33

Dea: There is also a setting in your CONTROL PANEL that may need to be changed.....there is an option in that area of your PC that will also block images and hyper-links from appearing in an e-mail or allowing those items to work properly. Being that you mentioned Outlook Express, the problem probably lies within Outlook and the fix is the one I posted above. On the off chance the above does not correct the problem let me know and I will post the directives for changing the setting in the Control Panel. Make sure, too, that you're updating you PC (Internet Explorer in particular for the problem you are experiencing) at the Microsoft Update site.....a must for every PC! Judy : )

1. Open Outlook Express. 2. At the top of the screen click on TOOLS. 3. A drop down box will appear - click on OPTIONS. 4. A small screen with labeled tabs will appear - click on the SECURITY tab. 5. UNCHECK: Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus. 6. UNCHECK: Block images and other external content in e-mail. Then click on APPLY and OK. Happy Holidays! Thanks Ann, Don't think that's my problem then - No yellow shield, no nothing +++ NO message content. Will keep trying. Thanks, Dea x

AnninGlos Report 15 Dec 2005 17:21

when you try to open an e card or similar if you look at the bottom of the picture you may see a yellow shield. Double click to open it and you should find it in there. Not very good with explaining but that is how I found it. the down side is that now I get the flashing adds that I didn't get before. ann Glos

AnninGlos Report 15 Dec 2005 17:14

Dea Report 15 Dec 2005 16:50

Have you got Internet Explorer? - Outlook Express ? I have a sort of similar problem in that since IE has been updated a few times - I have a certain friend who sends me e-mails and I now get just the header with no content in the mail. I have McAfee Spamkiller and it has a section where it puts mail it has blocked. Macafee has not blocked the mail - It comes in to the Macafee server then somewhere between that server and the Outlook Express - the mail gets blocked. It would seem that it is either the settings on IE or on Outlook Express.??? Perhaps someone could advise.? - It may help us both. Dea x
