Well, probably lucky that no one else has forked out for the units if we are going to get them free on 18 Jan.

Just found this on National Archivist. I was directed there by 1837 on line, so a hope for those not yet bought any credits. 'National Archivist customers can receive 20% extra units FREE when you buy any price plan from www.1837online.com. Just type in the promotional code NA0106 at the point of purchase.* You can use the units to search the complete birth, marriage and death indexes from 1837 to 2003, as well as census, overseas and military records, on the 1837online.com site. *Offer available until 14th February 2006' Any good? GUYS, Zoe has read this on a press release for ancestry: It is now the only UK genealogy site to offer the entire birth, marriages and deaths index for England and Wales from 1837 to the present day ; the index will be online from January 18th.'

At least I got an early reply! They said the promo codes were a separate thing so I didn't get the extra units! Still it WAS a bit cheeky I suppose. Ann

Heather Wow, thanks for that! I was feeling a bit fed up with 1837. I emailed them saying that I'd bought loads of credits in the last 18 months since I've been doing this, and could I have the £125-3 year's unlimited offer. They emailed me back (after 4 days!) and said that it was only for a limited number of customers so no, I couldn't have it! I've got Ancestry so looking forward to getting more info from there! Mandy :)

Guys, hang fire on buying 1837 units, as the thread elsewhere says it looks like ancestry is bringing out the whole index on 18 January - which is why 1837 is probably trying to tie everyone up now with its special offers. If you already have ancestry then you may find you can get the whole index free next week.

I have not had a reply. Wishful thinking to expect a positive result. Maureen

Also sent a message to 1837online asking if I can get the extra 20%. The money that they have had off me in the last 6 weeks I will be very disappointed if I do not get the extra units - especially with the number of images that are unreadable but chargeable or not there at all and those that do not save etc. Maureen

Ann Report 10 Jan 2006 20:27

I am not a member of Ancestry Val, it seemed to be a bit expensive for me. I expect , as I get further back with my research I will have to join though. Maybe someone else can help by explaining the difference Regards Ann
