HI Sylvia - you can contact the Islington Local History Centre at : [email protected]. They did a search for me of the electoral rolls for 1930-1935 at a cost of 10 pounds. They were very quick and nice. The address is Finsbury Library, 245 St John Street EC1V 4NB, Tel: 020 7527 7988.

Sometime ago I visited the Essex Regiment Museum in Chelmsford. They provided me with information from the Absentee Voters Lists for my grandfather (who lived in Ilford). They were very helpful and provided other information as well.

I was reading about this earlier today - oh gawd it was on a WW1 site in Lancs I believe. Apparently the local library had the roll of people who were away fighting and had their address and next to it their regiment and number.

At my local council (Hammersmith+Fulham) AVL`s are kept at the front of each year of the Electoral Rolls Lists. They include Rank, Ship, or Regiment etc. Found in the Local Studies and Archives Dept. Sylvia.

Hi again Fred, just to let you know that it seems that the lists are kept locally - with the Electoral Rolls, so that would tend to be at the Local Studies library covering that particular area. So possibly Tower Hamlets or Stratford for the East End / Essex borders. Best to phone them first and check. Hope this helps. Maz. XX

Hi, I know those asking here for absentee voters lists are interested in the London area, but if anyone is interested, there is a searchable database of absentee voters from Leeds online. I don't think I can paste the full address here, but if you go to www(.)leeds(.)gov(.)uk (don't forget to remove the brackets) then click on learning, then on libraries, then on local and family history and you should be able to find the page from there. Hope that's been useful for someone anyway. All the best

Don't know where the one you want is but the one for Leeds is held at the central library - perhaps yours is held at your central library? Snowdrops

Hi Fred, only just found your message - not been on here much lately! To be honest, I didn't because my uncle suddenly remembered what his father did during the war, so it wasn't necessary! I am going to the LMA tomorrow, so I will ask them and get back to you. Maz. XX
